Be careful what you wish for!
It was my first job. I was fed up with my line manager; he wasn't much of a boss at
all. He let me get on with my job and he did not
interfere. After a while, I was not satisfied with
the situation. I wanted more guidance, more
input, more ‘hands-on’ from him. I went to see
him in his office and I asked for two meetings a
week with him. Then he told me an old fable.
Some frogs were unhappy because they had no-
one to rule them. They sent a message to
Jupiter, asking for a king. Jupiter didn't want to spend much time worrying about frogs,
so he dropped a log in their pond and told them it was their
king. Eventually, the frogs got fed up with this king who said
nothing and did nothing. They sent another message to
Jupiter, asking for a better king. They said they wanted
more guidance, more input, a more ‘hands-on’ approach. This
i
time Jupiter was really angry that a bunch of frogs was pestering him, He sent them a
stork. This new king caught the frogs one by one and ate them. Eventually, there were
none left.
