LIGTAS: An Instructional Video on Disaster Preparedness

Disaster is defined as any large-scale occurrence that disrupts hundreds of

thousands of lives every year. Each disaster has lasting effect like the human society’s
normal functioning and leads to widespread loss of life, property, environment and
damage to earth. Disaster is also a very common occurrence in the country or region.
Natural disasters, which are caused by natural processes, are one type of disaster.
Earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, floods, as well as other natural disasters are
among the deadliest and that is according to the video I watched. The other type of
disaster is a man-made disaster, which occurs as a result of technology failures or
human negligence. Fires, nuclear explosions or radiation, oil spills, transportation
incidents, terrorist attacks, and certain other man-made disasters are only few more
occurrences.

How can we be prepared for impending disasters? According to the world

Disaster Report of 2012, The Philippines ranks third of the most disaster - prone
countries because it is on a geologically unstable region and it is surrounded by many
subduction zones that may cause earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, typhoon
and tsunamis. It is impossible to stop natural disasters from hitting our country, all we
can do is to manage risk. Some of the people may live near a water body or in a
geologically unstable area that could be impacted by natural disasters at any time. What
evidence do they have? Nobody knows when or where these disasters will happen. As
a result, organizations or webinars are hosted, and students in schools are taught about
disaster preparedness. Providing free kits to each student, such as an emergency kit, a
survival kit, or a first-aid kit, so that they are aware of and informed about the
unexpected occurrence of fortuitous events that can kill many people, destroy
infrastructures, and so on. People will be more prepared if their level of awareness is
raised; they will know how to lower the danger; they will need to be trained in order to
know what correct measures to take and how they will react before, during, and after a
disaster. Preparation can save lives; it is for crisis can mean the difference between and
loss. It is need to be prepared. Being ready for any disaster is important to surviving and
recovering from a disaster.

Preparedness can help to decrease the dread, anxiety, and losses that come
with disasters. Individuals, families, and communities should be aware of what to do in
the event of a fire and where to take shelter during a severe storm. They should be
prepared to evacuate their homes and seek safety in public shelters, as well as know
how to take care of their basic medical needs. People can also mitigate the effects of
disasters; flood proofing, raising or transferring a property out of harm's way, and
securing goods that can shake loose in an earthquake, and sometimes fully avert the
hazard. One of the key goals of disaster preparedness is to raise community knowledge
of the threats and consequences of all hazards and risks.
