Lesson 1 – Discussion
Nature of Mental Hygiene and Well Being

Question 2: What are the basic dimensions of mental health?

Thoughts - The way you think about something has a big impact on your mental
health. Changes in your thinking are typically accompanied by changes in your mental
health. When you're in excellent health, it's easier to see life in a more balanced and
productive way. When you're sick, it's tempting to focus on the terrible and miss the
positive.

Body reactions - Body responses include changes in biological systems such as

heart rate, respiration, digestion, brain chemicals, hormones, and others. Changes in
your body's responses are frequently associated with changes in your mental health.

Emotions - Emotions are heavily influenced by how you feel. Emotions can be joyful,
unpleasant, or mixed, like when you feel two emotions at once. Emotional changes
frequently accompany changes in mental health.

Behaviors - Behaviors are the actions and reactions you have to your environment.
Some actions are advantageous, while others may be detrimental. Behavior changes
are typically related with mental health issues.
