Jackie Robinson

Why He Is So Famous
On April 15, 1947 Jackie Robinson broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier.
He was the first African American to play MLB. On April 15, people celebrate
what Jackie Robinson did for all African Americans. He played on the Brooklyn
Dodgers for 10 years. (now known as the LA Dodgers)

His life before fame
Jackie Robinson was born January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. Jackie went to
Pasadena City College in 1937-1939 and did really good in sports then he
quickly transferred to UCLA for a scholarship in sports (Baseball, Basketball,
Football, and Track). After school he served for the army 1942-1944 during
WWII. He coached Basketball at Samuel Huston College in 1994 and 1995.
After coaching he went to the Brooklyn Dodgers to play Major League
Baseball.
Jackie Robinson’s Family History
Jackie Robinson’s Parents were Mallie and Jerry Robinson, he was the youngest
with his 4 siblings Edgar, Frank, Matthew also known as Mack, and his sister
Willa Mae. Jackie’s parents had a troubled marriage, his dad shortly left after he
was born. Jackie’s single mother raised Jackie and his siblings all by herself.

Jackie married Rachel Robinson. Jackie had 3 kids, Jackie jr (1946), Sharon
(1950), and David (1952). Jackie’s first son Jackie jr sadly died at the age of 24
from a car crash.
How Did Jackie Robinson Die?
Jackie Robinson suffered from heart disease and diabetes. Jackie sadly died
from a heart attack. He died on October 24, 1972. He was in his house in
North Stamford, Connecticut. His last words were “ love you”.
