Paragraph Development

1. Introduction

Regarding efforts to recycle plastic waste from wasted material or discarded from
the rest of human activities (domestic life). Solid waste that is still fit for use can be
recycled by separating, collecting, and remaking it so that it can be used again. However,
in this recycling process, there are obstacles such as the lack of skills and education from
the community regarding how to recycle properly and correctly because of the lack of
socialization of plastic waste recycling (Syukur, 2019).

A. Definition of Trash

Garbage is a material that is wasted or disposed of from sources resulting from

human activities and nature that has no economic value. Rubbish is classified into two
based on the source, namely: The first comes from life activities (household) and the
secondcomes from business activities seven symbols for plastic waste, namely:

1. PETE (transparent, clear, and strong).

2. HDPE (various types of bottles, translucent and rigid).

3. PVC (stable to chemicals, weather influences, flow, and electrical properties).

4. LDPE (food containers and soft bottles such as bottles of honey, mayonnaise, and so
on).

5. PP (good resistance to chemicals, strong, and has a melting point).

6. PS (material for eating styrofoam, disposable drinking containers, carton for eggs, and
so on).

7. OTHER (made of resin materials that are not included in other groups, used in multi-
layer combinations) (Maria, 2019).

According to environmental health sciences, waste is part of objects or things that

are seen as unused, unused, and disposed of so as not to damage survival. According to
the Big Indonesian Dictionary, garbage is goods or objects that are thrown away because
they are no longer used (Imania, 2020). It is unfortunate that Indonesia's position
regarding plastic waste is in second position after China. This indicates that the oceans in
Indonesia have begun to be polluted.

B. Definition of Recycling

Recycling is a step to change a used material into a new material with the aim of
preventing waste and processing it into something useful, reducing new clothing
materials, reducing energy use, reducing pollution, land damage, and greenhouse gas
emissions when compared to the process of making new goods (Imania, 2020). Hopefully,
the three principles of recycling waste consisting of reducing, reusing, and recycling can
minimize the problem of plastic waste in Indonesia.

A. A Work of Art from Recycling Plastic Waste

This artist named Edy Suranta Ginting from Medan uses plastic waste that is still

are less desirable even if there are lots of requests such as changing the shape of the nose,

his main sponsor is from Berlin. The price range starts from IDR 200 million to IDR 350
million. The money from the painting orders was used to buy books, shoes, bags, and
others. To help and provide education to children in the interior, especially in Edy's
hometown in Tanah Karo Simalem (Leandha, 2022). Mr. Edy, taught us to learn that
plastic waste that is seen as priceless can be turned into a work that has value. taught us

B. Positive and Negative Impacts of Recycling Plastic Wasted

One of the positive benefits of recycling is that it can reduce landfill waste, so
there is no risk of leakage of natural gas, toxic chemicals, and other harmful substances. In
this way, the environment will remain clean and safe. Help conserve natural resources,
improve lives, and reduce wood and water use in manufacturing processes. So that the
forest, and reduce wood and water use are not cut down to provide new paper, while when
logging should be responsible again by replanting trees (Maerdatila, 2020).
The negative impact of plastic waste is destroying the beauty of the panorama,
causing unpleasant odors and causing pollution in waters that threaten the life of
organisms (turtles, dolphins, whales, and so on) (Rahman, 2021).

C. Plastic Usage Solution

Ecobricks are one of the creative solutions to overcome plastic waste. Its function is not to
destroy plastic waste, but to extend the life of plastic and turn it into useful goods that can
be used for the benefit of the general public. Most people treat used plastic as household
plastic waste, unknowingly polluting the environment, waterways, and daily life. The
making of eco-bricks is still not well known in the wider community. Because most
people still use used plastics as household plastic waste, polluting the environment, rivers,
and pollution (Suminto, 2017).

3. Conclusion

As the next generation, we should gradually reduce the use of plastic, because if it is no
longer used it will definitely turn into plastic waste, there are seven symbols for plastic
waste, namely:

1. PETE (transparent, clear, and strong).

2. HDPE (various types of bottles, translucent and rigid).

3. PVC (stable to chemicals, weather influences, flow, and electrical properties).

so on).

7. OTHER (made of resin materials that are not included in other groups, used in multi-
layer combinations) (Maria, 2019).

The government is also expected to review people's behavior in using plastic wisely.
Hopefully, the recycling process can optimize this problem so that it can be resolved
properly.

PLASTIC WASTE RECYCLING

By: Kaila Nur Anisya

Talking about plastic recycling is one of the efforts to reduce the accumulation of
waste. Although in Indonesia itself problems related to plastic waste are still unresolved, even
Indonesia occupies the second position as a country that produces plastic waste into the ocean
after China (Sherly, 2018). Moreover, this plastic waste is difficult to decompose, at least it
takes about 50-100 years to decompose (Nurhadi, 2021).

Lack of public awareness and people's habits in disposing of garbage, especially often
throwing garbage in rivers which when heavy rains later can cause flooding. Will the oceans
in Indonesia in the next 5 or 10 years turn into a sea of plastic waste? If we are not aware of
this problem, the answer could be that in the next 5 or 10 years the oceans in Indonesia will
turn into plastic waste.
We should pay attention to the fate of various biota that lives in the ocean. For
example, at that time I had seen or heard from a news video show, where there was a foreign
tourist playing on one of the beaches in Indonesia but when he was at sea he was dragged by
waves of plastic waste, even though before the sea was widely known the condition of the
waters was very good. clear and awake. So that we can conclude the importance of
socializing to the public not to litter, especially if we are heading to a tourist destination, if
when we do not find a trash can we should store it in a bag first, or when we find a trash can
then throw it away. In addition, plastic waste is also very dangerous for human health, the
chemical substances contained in plastic waste can at least trigger cancer. Therefore, let's
start being aware of throwing trash in its place from ourselves first. Hopefully the 3R (reuce,
reduce and recycle) can minimize the use of plastic waste.

Recycling is a step to change a used material into a new material with the aim of
preventing waste and processing it into something useful, reducing new clothing materials,
reducing energy use, reducing pollution, land damage, and greenhouse gas emissions when
compared to the process of making new goods (Imania, 2020).

One of the positive benefits of recycling is that it can reduce landfill waste, so there is
no risk of leakage of natural gas, toxic chemicals, and other harmful substances. In this way,
the environment will remain clean and safe. Help conserve natural resources, improve lives,
and reduce wood and water use in manufacturing processes. So that the forest, and reduce
wood and water use are not cut down to provide new paper, while when logging should be
responsible again by replanting trees (Maerdatila, 2020).
From all that has been explained we can conclude that in developing countries, especially in
Indonesia, the first priority that needs to be held in the socialization of reducing the use of
waste by sorting and waste management facilities must be designed and implemented
according agreed cost calculations. In addition, the importance of involvement and examples
from regional heads and leaders of other regional institutions so that the community can be
moved or motivated. Hopefully, the three principles of recycling waste consisting of
reducing, reusing, and recycling can minimize the problem of plastic waste in Indonesia.
