1. PRELIMINARY NOTES
a) Prior to start any procedure for moving, slinging, hoisting the equipment in object,
all the personnel involved in the installation activities must be equipped with
adequate protection for the body (work gloves, helmet, work boots, safety glasses,
overall, anti-noise ears protection).
b) Personnel must not approach moving parts while wearing loose clothing, personal
ornaments, or long hair.
e) Ensure that hoisting system have adequate capacity, safety factor, and that they
are in a perfect state of preservation.
f) Be aware, unless otherwise indicated, no lifting grips that may be provided on the
cylinders can be utilized for lifting them. In fact grips are generally provided for use
exclusively in the shop and are not sized for lifting the cylinders with head, packing,
valves, cover or distance piece connected to them.
h) Protect machined surfaces adequately against lifting cables and ensure that the
cables don’t exert unacceptable stress on parts of the pieces. It is advisable to use,
when possible, straps of synthetic material instead of metal cables for lifting.
i) Be aware that any sharp edges of components to be lifted can damage the lifting
equipment.

3.9 Put the jack under stress checking by feeler gauge that the distance between the
mating faces of cylinder and frame doesn’t change, and their parallelism.
3.10 Install the design cylinder support with shim (approx. 5 mm) and foundation bolts
(remember to wrap the bolt, for about the 10% of their total length, with tape to
avoid contact with grout and to allow bolt stretching during the tightening).

3.11 Make sure that support is perfectly in touch with cylinder, checking by feeler
gauge that distance between their mating faces is within 0.05 mm.
3.12 Assemble a formwork around the support, prepare the mortar and make the
casting. Grout non-shrinking compound (free of metallic particles), or epoxy.
3.13 When the curing time has elapsed, remove the jack and check again the
parallelism between the cylinder/frame faces. If corrections are needed, add or
reduce shimming introduced in 3.10.
3.14 Gradually tighten the cylinder support foundation bolts to the specified torque
value (consult the Compressor Instruction Manual), then check again the
parallelism of the cylinder-support-frame mating faces (distances, by feeler
gauge, within 0.05 mm).
3.15 Gradually tighten the nuts (fastening cylinder to frame), crosswise two-by-two, to
the specified torque value (consult the Compressor Instruction Manual), then
check again the parallelism of the cylinder-support-frame mating faces
(distances, by feeler gauge, within 0.05 mm).
3.16 Connect the piston to the crosshead (consult the Compressor Instruction Manual).
3.17 Measure Run-Out (piston rod straightness test, or oscillation of the geometric axis
of the piston rod during one complete revolution of the crank) by dial gauges,
then record the data. A Run-Out value higher than the limit value (consult
Compressor Installation Manual), is an indication of defective alignment. In this
case, it will bee necessary to repeat the procedure described above.

3.18 Connect the suction and discharge volume bottles to the cylinder.
3.19 Connect all the piping (lubrication oil, cooling water, buffering nitrogen) to the
cylinder.

Procedure B
5. INTRODUCTION
5.1 If the cylinder is complete with the piston body-piston rod assembly, it is
advisable to carry out the procedure after having disassembled the partition
cover. This will avoid any impacts between piston rod and partition cover.
5.2 Adjustable screw jack to be prepared to support the cylinder during its
installation.
5.3 For the correct arrangement of the cylinders on the frame, refer to the General
Arrangement Drawing of the compressor included in the Data Sheet and
Schematics of Compressor Installation Manual.
5.4 In case that more cylinders are due to the same stage, refer to the Workshop
Assembling Data Sheet of Compressor Quality Manual.

6.2 Inspect the mating faces between frame and slide body.
6.3 Remove any traces of dirt, rust, or machining residue.
6.4 Grease the mating face on the frame and apply a gasket obtained from a sheet
of thin paper, or use special sealant paste as “Motorseal”.
6.5 Remove the foot from the slide body and place it on the foundation block.
6.6 Sling and lift the cylinder-slide body assembly properly, considering its weight
and centre of gravity.

6.7 If the cylinder is complete with the piston assembly, bring the crosshead to the
inner dead centre.
6.8 Approach the cylinder-slide body assembly to the frame, making sure that dowel
pin between slide body and frame is positioned (dowel pin must be removed if
two, or more, cylinders are connected with the same suction, or discharge,
volume bottle).

6.10 Screw but not tighten the nuts on the stud bolts joining the cylinder-slide body
assembly to the frame.
6.11 Place the adjustable screw jack under the cylinder, as close as possible to the
point in which the design support will be connected. Such jack must not interfere
with the subsequent procedures for the assembling and anchoring of the design
support.
6.12 Put the jack under stress checking by feeler gauge that the distance between the
mating faces of cylinder and frame doesn’t change, and their parallelism.
6.13 Install the design cylinder support with shim (approx. 5 mm) and foundation bolts
(remember to wrap the bolt, for about the 10% of their total length, with tape to
avoid contact with grout and to allow bolt stretching during the tightening).
6.14 Make sure that support is perfectly in touch with cylinder, checking by feeler
gauge that distance between their mating faces is within 0.05 mm.
6.15 Assemble the back foot on the bottom of slide body (refer to item 6.5), and wrap
its foundation bolts, for about the 10% of their total length, with tape to avoid, as
usual, contact with grout and to allow bolt stretching during tightening.
6.16 Assemble a formwork around the cylinder support and the slide body foot.
6.17 Prepare the mortar and make the casting in the same time for all cylinder
supports and slide bodies feet, of all the compression lines of the unit. Grout with
non-shrinking compound (free of metallic particles), or epoxy.

6.18 When the curing time has elapsed, remove the jack and check again the
parallelism between the cylinder-slide body assembly and frame mating faces. If
corrections are needed, add or reduce shimming introduced in 6.13.
6.19 Gradually tighten the cylinder support and slide body foundation bolts to the
specified torque value (consult the Compressor Instruction Manual), then check
again the parallelism of the mating facesn between cylinder and its support, and
between cylinder-slide body assembly with frame (distances by feeler gauge,
within 0.05 mm).
6.20 Gradually tighten the nuts (fastening cylinder-slide body assembly to frame),
crosswise two-by-two, to the specified torque value (consult the Compressor
Instruction Manual), then check again the parallelism as in item 6.19.
6.21 Connect the small end of connecting rod to the crosshead, fixing properly the
crosshead pin (consult the Compressor Instruction Manual).
6.22 Connect the piston to the crosshead (consult the Compressor Instruction Manual).
6.23 Measure Run-Out (piston rod straightness test, or oscillation of the geometric axis
of the piston rod during one complete revolution of the crank) by dial gauges,
then record the data. A Run-Out value higher than the limit value (consult
Compressor Installation Manual), is an indication of defective alignment. In this
case, it will bee necessary to repeat the procedure described above.
6.24 Connect the suction and discharge volume bottles to the cylinder.
6.25 Connect all the piping (lubrication oil, cooling water, buffering nitrogen) to the
cylinder.
