I. OBJECTIVE:

The following are the main objectives of this design analysis:

1. Assessment of the conformance of the electrical design with the
2. To calculate voltage, drop due to potential safety risks.
Reasons include: loss of power to equipment, potential damage to
cords and wires, the

Applying  PEC  2017  table  2.15.1.2

Minimum Rating and Size.

FPN No. 2: Conductors for feeders as defined in Article 1.0, sized

to prevent a voltage drop exceeding 3  percent  at  the  farthest
outlet  of  power,  heating,  and  lighting  loads,  or
combinations  of  such  loads, and where the maximum total
voltage drop on both feeders and branch circuits to the farthest
outlet does not exceed 5 percent, will provide reasonable
efficiency of operation.

VDL-L = k x IL x Z x L
Where;
VDL-L-Line-to-Line Voltage drop (v) IL-Line Current (A)
Z-Effective Z (Ω/1000ft) @ 0.85 p.f for uncoated copper wires
(PEC 2017 Table 10.1.1.9)

L-Length of cable (m) k-2 (for single phase)

i. Calculation of voltage drop of the cable between Admin Panel to PB.

2
Cable Size= 38mm THHN Wire
Length= 20m
Vs= 230V
Z= 0.45Ω / 305m
IT= 96.87A

Then, using equation above, solve for the line-to-line voltage drop,
VDL-L = 2 x 96.87A x (0.45Ω/305) x 20m
VDL-L = 5.72

%VD1 = 5.72
-------- x100%= 2.49%

ii. Calculation of voltage drop of the cable between Panelboard to
to farthest load
2
Cable Size= 3.5mm THHN Wire
Length = 30m
Vs= 230V
Z= 1.7Ω / 305m
IT= 8.00A

Then, using equation above, solve for the line-to-line voltage drop,
VDL-L = 2 x 8.00A x (1.7Ω/305) x 30m
VDL-L = 2.68

%VD1 = 2.68
-------- x100%= 1.16%
230

iii. Calculate the total voltage drop from Main feeder to the farthest load.
VDT = %VD1 + %VD2
= 2.49% + 1.16%

= 3.65%

iv. Voltage Drop Conclusion:

The computed Voltage drop from the Service Entrance to farthest cable has
a total Voltage Drop of 3.65%, which is below the 5% allowable Voltage
Drop and at the Branch Circuit having the farthest Load, the Voltage Drop
is 1.16% which is also below the 3% allowable Voltage Drop in the PEC.
Therefore, the selected cable size of main and branches is safe and
reliable.
