Author: Olivar II J.T.; Rodolfo R.S.; Cabria H.B. (2018) Page No. 24 to 42

Main Idea to be learned:

Minerals are naturally occurring substances that build up the crust. There are many types of minerals, but
they share common characteristics. They are crystalline solid, made of chemical elements and compounds, and
inorganic in nature. They are present everywhere and mostly derived from nature through the process of mining.
Mineral resources are amongst the most important natural resources that dictate the industrial
and economic development of a country because they provide raw materials to the primary, secondary and tertiary
sectors of the economy.
Some example of minerals that are significant for the economy are aluminum, chromite, feldspar, fluorite,
gold, copper, iron, lead, phosphate, quartz, silica and silver.
