A. Preliminary Activities
Greetings

pray. In the name of the father, the son, and
the holy spirit,

Our almighty father, thank you very much

for this day that you have given so that we
can go to school and learn. Lord, we ask for
your daily guidance for us, give us wisdom

all the sins and shortcomings we have
committed whether it was intentional or not.
Thank you very much for repeatedly
answering our prayers. This is our plea and
prayer in the name of Jesus, Amen. ”

“Everyone can sit” ‘’ Thank you, Teacher!”

Checking of Attendance
“Yes, Teacher”
“I will check your attendance. Raise your
hand and say present if you’re here” (The pupils will give their answer.)

“Understand class?”

“What else?”
“Bag and books teacher”
“Yes, Doris?”
“Good Job Doris!”
“Now class, I have here a stone, water and
balloons”
“Let's start with the stone”
“What do you think is the shape
of stone?” “Oval/circle teacher.”

“Shannon?”
“Great! Can you touch it?” “Yes, Teacher”

“How about the water? What do you have to

say about it? Do the water and the cup have “Yes, Teacher”
the same shape?”
“Good!”
“And last, what can you say about the
balloons?”
“Teacher, it is colorful”
“Shane?”
“Good Job Class!”
“These are the things that we refer to as
Matter.”
“Everything we see and everything we
touch is called matter because matter is
everywhere!”

C. Lesson Proper
“The phases of matter will be the topic of
our class discussion this morning”
“But first, let's define, what is matter?”

“Matter is anything that has weight and

takes up space. And all the things around us
is a matter. Even the air we breathe is also a
matter.”
“Class, did you know that there are 3 phases
of matter?”

“Yes! There are 3 phases of matter namely:

Solid, Liquid, and Gas”

“Let's discuss them one by one. The first

one is solid ”
1. Solid-Something is usually described as a
solid if it can hold its own shape and is hard
to compress (squash). The molecules in a
solid are closely packed together – they
have a high density.

“So, I have here a wallet. it?(The teacher

holding the wallet presented a while ago.)
“Teacher, this is eraser”
Can you touch and describe what you feel at
(Tj will touch it)
the wallet? ”

“What is its shape?”

“Rectangle teacher”
“Very good Tj. Now, can you please get a
solid object inside your bag? Come here in
front and show it to your classmates ”

“Is it soft or hard? ”

“It is hard teacher”

“Is it heavy or light? ”
“light teacher”

“Is it a solid?”

“Let us give him a "clap. So, solids have “Yes, Teacher”

definite shape. It can be held and seen”

2. Liquid-In liquids, the molecules have the

ability to move around and slide past each
other. A liquid will take on the shape of the
container it is being held in. While a liquid
is easier to compress than a solid, it is still
quite difficult – imagine trying to compress
water in a confined container!

“Now, the second phase of matter is

Liquid”

“I have here an empty cup and a water. Can “Yes, Teacher”

you please come in front?”
“What have you observed class? What
happened to the water inside the cup? Does
the water takes the shape of the cup?”

“Very Good observation!”

“It only shows that the liquid takes the

shape of the cup. Now, give me another
example of liquid”

“Jenny?” “Juice teacher”

“Very good!”

3. Gases- In gases, the atoms are much

more spread out than in solids or liquids,
and the atoms collide randomly with one
another. A gas will fill any container, but if
the container is not sealed, the gas will
escape. Gas can be compressed much more
easily than a liquid or solid.

“What am I holding class?” “Balloon teacher”

“Right! This balloon is filled with air inside
and the air is an example of gas”
“Can you see the air class?”
“Yes correct! Air cannot be seen because
it's color less but it can be felt. There are
also gases that can the seen like smoke and
clouds.”

D. Application

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY

PUPIL’S ACTIVITY
Let us have another exercise. Connect
column A with column B.

“Who wants to answer the first one? Which

one is solid? ”
“The flower is solid ”

“Very good! Can you touch the flowers? ”

“Yes, teacher”
“Your answer is correct. How about the
next one. Which one is the liquid? The
smoke from the car or the water from the
faucet? ”
“The water from the faucet teacher”
“Correct. Does the water takes the shape of
the basin? ” “Yes”

“Do the liquids take the shape of its “Yes it takes the shape of its
container?” container.”

“Very good. How about the last one? Which

one is a gas? Is it the car?”

“Very good. You were all able to identify “It's the smoke from the car teacher.”
the states of matter.”

E. Generalization
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY

“Again, what do we call the things around

us? ”
PUPIL’S ACTIVITY
“Good, What are the three states of matter?
What is the state of matter that has definite “Matter”
size, shape and weight? ”
“Great! What about the state of matter that
takes the shape of their container and can “Solid, Liquid and Gas”
also flow and it can be poured? ”
“Solid”
“Lastly, what is the state of matter that
usually cannot be seen, spreads out easily
and also takes the shape of its container?”
“Liquid teacher ”
“Very good. Let's give everyone a clap ”
