1. Think of a catchy, unbiased title for the text. Provide some reasons that justify your
choice.

A possible title for this fragment could be “The patient in white”. It summarises the main idea of
the first part of the text, which makes reference to the context of war and a room full of wounded
soldiers. We have a soldier in white who is on a critical condition and also the figure of a nurse
checking on patients’ health. In the second part of the text, we face a fire in the kitchen. Taking
into account these episodes, the title alludes to the film 1996 film “The English Patient” which is
based on the novel of the same name by Michael Ondaatje. Both the novel and the film are very
famous even nowadays, so we could create expectations with this title. In this film, we have a
patient that is completely burned and in pain and is taken care of by the nurse, in the context of
the World War II, so we can establish connections between the fragment and the film.

2. Write a summary of the text in 70-80 words using your own words.

Among the wounded soldiers in the room, there were a Texan and a soldier in white, who was
severely injured. One afternoon, he turned up dead, and the soldiers blamed the Texan. There
was a fire which set fire to the kitchen. It was totally out of control and when the firefighters
came back after the bombers’ safe landing, the fire had already died down. The next day,
Yossarian met the chaplain, although he did not recognize him.
