REFLECTION PAPER ON THE HISTORICAL BASIS OF CURRICULUM

History is the olden times. It connects the past story to the present. It is the living

presentation of the stories from the past. It is a reminder that a certain significant event took

place earlier. Thus, these important events should be cherished and remembered.

History also became a discipline in the school curriculum. It specifically talked about

the narration centering in the transformation of Philippines and the people living in it. It

serves as the identity of the country and its citizen. This discipline is usually composed of

factual information that learners discover and reminisce.

What makes historical evolution of educational system a basis for the design of

curriculum today?

It is said, to arrive in your visioned place, one must learn to look back the starting

line. Thus, “Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinanggalingan, ay hindi makakarating sa

patutunguhan.” This view reflects the said development of the curriculum today. One must

know the beginning of education in order to take note the best ways to improve the present

times.

Gone are the days that corporal discipline is utilized. In the new curriculum, it is

encouraged to create a child- friendly environment rather than authoritative management

inside a classroom. I was a product of old curriculum and it really showed that history is very

necessary to assess what needs to be continued and what needs to be stopped or changed.

Teachers should develop reading. Not reading that decode but reading professionally

to not lag and chase the new waves of learners today. Teachers must understand the past to
understand the present, and through this, teachers will be able to make the most beautiful and

noteworthy change for the learners.
