A. Preparation
Please lead the prayer, ________. Yes, sir.
(PRAYER)

C. Review
Class, what was our lesson yesterday? Sir, our lesson yesterday was about __________.
D. Motivation
Class, I have here some pictures.
What is the first picture?

Sir, the first picture is a SUN!

Very good! Another picture!

Sir, it is a picture of the moon!

Yes, that is correct!

Now, the last one… Sir, that is a picture of the Earth!

Sir, in the universe!

Very good, class!

Yes, sir!
Where do you think we can find these objects?

Very good! Universe is composed of planets, stars,

galaxies and other forms of matter. There is also what we
call “SOLAR SYSTEM”.
Are you ready to listen?
E. Unlocking of Difficulties

Before we proceed with our di scussion, let us first look

and understand the meanings of the words that you will
later encounter in this lesson. All together, let us read.
 Planets are celestial bodies moving in an
 Planets elliptical orbit around the sun.

 Comets
 Comets are small, fragile, irregularly shaped
bodies composed of mixture of non-volatile grains
and frozen gases.

 Asteroids

 Asteroids are rocky and metallic objects that orbit

the sun but are too small to be considered planets.

 Orbit

 Orbit is the curved path of a celestial object or
spacecraft around a star, planet, or moon.
F. Presentation

The solar system is the sun and all objects that orbit around
it. The sun is orbited by planets, asteroids, comets and
other things.

The sun is the center of the solar system, and it is

surrounded by many objects including the 8 planets which
are divided into two groups, the inner planets and the ou ter
planets. The inner planets are mercury, Venus, Earth and
Mars. The outer planets are the Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and
Neptune
G. Comprehension Check-Up

What composed of Solar System? Solar system is composed of the sun and the other
objects that orbit around it.

There are eight planets in our solar system.

How many planets are there in our solar system?
Eight planets are divided into two groups.
Eight planets are divided into how many groups?
These two groups are the inner planets and outer
What are these two groups? planets.

The inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars.

What planets belong to inner planets?
The outer planets are the Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and
What planets belong to outer planets Neptune.
H. Discussion

The Composition of the Solar System

 Sun
 Planets
 Comets
 Satellites
 Minor planets
 Meteoroids
 Interplanetary Medium

But today, let’s tackle about the Solar System and its
planets.

The sun contains 99.85% of all the matter in the Solar

System. It is the richest source of electromagnetic energy
(mostly in the form of heat and light) in the solar system.

The planets, most of the satellites of the planets and the

asteroids revolve around the Sun in the same direction. Planets are celestial bodies moving in an elliptical orbit
around the sun.
Now, please read what are planets, _________.

Thank you, _______.

In this picture, you can see the eight planets, these are
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and
Neptune.
MERCURY
Let’s discuss first the first planet next to sun which is  Mercury does not have any moons or rings.
Mercury. Please read, _______  Mercury is the smallest planet.
__.  Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun.
 Your weight on Mercury would be 38%of your
weight on Earth.
 A day on the surface of Mercury lasts176 Earth
days.
 A year on Mercury takes 88 Earth days.
 It’s not known who discovered Mercury.

VENUS
 Venus does not have any moons or rings.
Second planet is Venus.  Venus is nearly as big as the Earth with a
diameter of 12,104 km.
 Venus is thought to be made up of a central iron
core, rocky mantle and silicate crust.
 A day on the surface of Venus (solar day) would
appear to take 117 Earth days.
 A year on Venus takes 225 Earth days.
 Venus is often called the Earth’s sister planet
 Venus is also known as the Morning Star and
the Evening Star because it is the brightest planet.
 Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system.
EARTH
 The Earth was once believed to be the center of
Third planet is Earth. the universe.
 Earth is the only planet not named after a god.
 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered in water.
 The Earth is the densest planet in the Solar
System.
 Earth is the only known planet to support life.
 It has 1 moon.

MARS
 Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and is the
The fourth planet in our solar system is the Mars. second smallest planet in the solar system.
 Named after the Roman god of war, Mars is also
often described as the “Red Planet” due to its
reddish appearance.
 Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere
composed primarily of carbon dioxide.
 Mars is home to the tallest mountain in the solar
system.
 Mars has the largest dust storms in the solar
system.
 It has 2 moons named PHOBOS and DEIMUS.

JUPITER
Next planet is Jupiter.  The planet Jupiter is the fifth planet out from the
Sun and is two and a halftimes more massive than
all the other planets in the solar system combined.
 It is made primarily of gases and is therefore
known as a “gas giant”.
 Jupiter has 79 moons; it also has the largest moon
in the solar system named GANYMEDE.
 It has four rings.
 Jupiter is the fourth brightest object in the solar
system.

SATURN
 Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the
most distant that can be seen with the naked eye.
Another planet is Saturn.  Saturn is the second largest planet and is best
known for its fabulous ring system that was first
observed in 1610by the astronomer Galileo
Galilei.
 Like Jupiter, Saturn is a gas giant and is
composed of similar gasses including hydrogen,
helium and methane.
 Saturn is the flattest planet.
 Saturn has 150 moons and smaller moonlets.
 It has more than 30 planetary rings

URANUS
 Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun.
 It’s not visible to the naked eye and became the
first planet discovered with the use of a telescope.
 It is often described as “rolling around the Sun on
its side.”
 It has 13 planetary rings and 27moons.
 Uranus was officially discovered by Sir William
Herschel in 1781.
 Uranus is often referred to as an “ice giant” planet.
After Saturn is Uranus.  Uranus hits the coldest temperatures of any
planet

NEPTUNE
 Neptune is the eighth planet from the Sun,
making it the most distant in the solar system.
 It has 14 moons.
 Neptune is the smallest gas giant.
 A year on Neptune lasts 165 Earth years.
 Neptune is named after the Roman god of the
sea.
 Neptune has 6 faint rings.
Now, the eight planet is Neptune.

I. Generalization

Now, class, can someone tell me what is the solar system

again?
Solar System is the sun and all the objects that orbit around
Yes, ________! it.

Very good! And what are these objects that composed the Sir, the solar system is composed of sun, planets, comets,
solar system? satellites, minor planets, meteoroids and planetary
medium!
Very good! Now, who can enumerate the planets Sir, the planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter,
according to its distance from the sun? Saturn, Uranus and Neptune!

Correct! Now class, imagine, what happens if there are no Sir, if there are no planets, then we won’t be alive today
planets in the solar system? because we live in one of the planets in the solar system
which is the Earth.
Yes, exactly!

VI. Evaluation
