INTRODUCTION

In this project, our group covered some important topics related to Human resource by

studying various aspects of a company named Honda. We researched and learned about the

company (its business lines, products, location, turnover and much more), the vision and

mission, the organizational structure and the strategy that the company uses in order to recruit

new employees. Moreover, we also learned about the selection process which the company

follows, work design, equity and diversity, and the training and development provided by the

company to its employees. The group members came across a few scenarios where we got to

know some new things related to the field of Human Resource. Following is the work we

researched

Recruitment strategy of Honda

Candidate applications for Honda are requested after graduation. After that, HR takes control

and asks each department to join interview teams. Teams interview the applicants, examine

their records of AIDT training, rank them, and determine who will be hired (if any), as well

as which departments they will work in (Grossman, 2018).

New hires consent to a single drug test and physical examination. Beyond what is specified in

the pre-employment advertising, no additional paper-and-pencil exams or credentials are

needed. Over 1,400 people have been hired so far from 2,300 interviews (Grossman, 2018).

After a three-day introduction led by HR, it is up to the divisions to work with HR to

transform the newcomers into effective team members. Everybody pitches in, but assistant

managers in each area organise hands-on training. And after their training they are ready to

be an certified employee (Grossman, 2018).

Selection process used by the Company

Selection process in HONDA

The selection process at Honda consists of 4 levels.

The first step to get into Honda is that there is a total aggregate required in studies which is

65%. The second step is after being eligible, there would be a written test conducted by the

officials of the company Things that need to be submitted before giving the written exam:

Original ID proof, Recent photocopies, Updated resume, Academic certifications, Awards

and rewards if any (Jobs, 2023b).

Technical interview

If the candidate is selected through the second process a technical interview is conducted.

The company tries to test the technical knowledge of the candidate

The employer will ask a set of behavioural and situational questions, questions about your

knowledge of technological tools and design, questions about your work habits and

procedures (Jobs, 2023b).

Hr interview

An HR interview is held if the candidate is chosen following the third step.

In an HR interview, there are a variety of questions.

What made you choose to apply for this position?

What professional background do you have that might be useful in this position?

What about the job description did you like the most?

Why are you quitting your job now?

and a lot more (Jobs, 2023b).

Work design of Honda

Work design is the process of establishing employee's roles and responsibilities and the

systems and procedures that they should follow.

The main 4 components include:

Job simplification - Honda likes to simplify the work of their employees so that the

employees can get more productive and are able to complete the tasks given to them on time

(Thrive at Work, 2020).

Job rotation - In order to accomplish a variety of human resources goals, the corporation

transfer employees from one position to another inside the business. Training employees,

advancing professional growth, and avoiding job boredom are the key goals of doing this

(Thrive at Work, 2020).

Job enrichment - Honda increases the responsibility of certain employees by giving them

increased responsibility and variety in their jobs. This makes the employees feel if they are

doing great in their given jobs and that is why a new job/work is being assigned to them

(Thrive at Work, 2020).

Job enlargement - various additional activities within the same level are added to an existing

role (Thrive at Work, 2020).

We could even site an example over here than Honda makes employee take on more planning

activities within their role, rather that assigning these tasks to their manager (Thrive at Work,

2020).

Equity and Diversity in the organization

To be equal implies treating one another equitably and also to acknowledge and accept their

particular differences. The organization is dedicated to upholding this ideal and giving every

person a fair chance. The options available to a person are unaffected by their race, ethnicity,

gender, age, religion, national origin, academic background, or financial or social standing.

Honda always has placed a high priority on acting in a manner that is consistent with its

conviction that multiculturalism and inclusion makes them stronger, but the social awakening

of 2020 prompted the business to re-evaluate and redouble its attempts to promote fairness,

freedom, and equality. The business pledged to take several fresh initiatives to strengthen its

commitment to societal justice and represent the demographics of USA more accurately in its

business practises. Among these, one of the initiatives was to share its goals and views more
openly, as well as the variety of important stakeholders’ groups (Honda Battle of the Bands

Returns to Celebrate HBCU Culture and Marching Band Tradition - Honda Corporate Social

Responsibility, n.d.).

New actions Honda has taken over the past two years, including:

 A more open job advertising procedure, enhanced recruitment and marketing

procedures, and diversified interviewing panels' slates of contenders or candidates.

 Honda updated its social media guidelines so that it can respond when a corporate

employee publishes racist or discriminating material.

 Honda provided organisational tools, such as a manager resource guide as well as a

leading check-in dialogue guideline, to assist in preparing leaders across the firm to

have productive interactions with employees on racism.

 Provided resources for colleagues to teach themselves about social justice.

 To advance social equality and diversity throughout Honda's U.S. business, anti-

racism and allyship programming was made available to managers and employees.
A firm's ability to adapt to the constantly fluctuating economic environment is strengthened

by the individual distinctions which its employee’s exhibit. According to the circumstances

and problems in every location (North America, South America, Asia/Oceania,

Europe/Middle East/Africa, China, and Japan), Honda works to diversify its workforce.

Honda believes that such differences combine to create creativity and innovation (Honda

Battle of the Bands Returns to Celebrate HBCU Culture and Marching Band Tradition -

Honda Corporate Social Responsibility, n.d.).

By giving everyone the same chances irrespective of their individual characteristics, such as

caste, national origin, ethnic background, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation,

previous careers, academic background, and whether they have disabilities, Honda aims to

diversify its labour force and increase its overall performance. Based on Honda's Regards for

Individual principle, Honda also exhorts people to accept one another's dissimilarities and

capabilities whilst using their personal strengths to the utmost (Honda Battle of the Bands

Returns to Celebrate HBCU Culture and Marching Band Tradition - Honda Corporate Social

Responsibility, n.d.).

To increase the representation of women and underrepresented groups (in terms of ethnicity,

nationality, etc.) in management and job assigns, all of Honda's six core regions has

established an objective for doing so when recruiting and developing new employees. Honda

has also been putting into action a number of measures for all of its employees, such as

encouraging an appreciation of the value of diversity and regularly conducting enlightenment

events (Honda Battle of the Bands Returns to Celebrate HBCU Culture and Marching Band

Tradition - Honda Corporate Social Responsibility, n.d.)

Training and development provided by the organization

The Honda India Foundation's inaugural Institution of Driving Training and Research

(IDTR), which is situated next to the New Bus Terminal, Indri Road, Baldi By-Pass, Karnal,

and is spread out throughout a sizable 9.25 acres of land, will aid in developing competent

and self-assured drivers and passengers (Honda Takes Two Big Steps to Advance the Skills

of Its Workforce, 2020).

The professionally designed beginner and intermediate programs will make it easier for

novice and experienced drivers of four-wheelers and HMVs (Heavy Motor Vehicles) as well

as two-wheeler motorcyclists to receive a blend of theory, simulator, and practical

instruction. Audience members will have the chance to explore a variety of riding

circumstances prior to actually driving on the road thanks to IDTR's cutting-edge simulators.

The very first institution with an automated driving test route is the IDTR in Karnal (ADTT)

(Honda Takes Two Big Steps to Advance the Skills of Its Workforce, 2020).

The institution also provides large corporations and fleet managers with exclusive training

packages. The HIF's qualified specialists will instruct members on traffic laws and protection

procedures in order to encourage driver safety practises even further. The IDTR also has two-

and four-wheeler assessment and training tracks, air-conditioned smart classes, observational
halls, an internal workshop, a computer lab, and a healthcare room (Honda Takes Two Big

Steps to Advance the Skills of Its Workforce, 2020).

In addition, the Honda's solar-powered Community Park in Karnal (sector 7), which includes

an open-air fitness centre and a sports field among many other amenities, would drastically

decrease carbon dioxide emissions while revitalising the local environment and fostering a

sense of community (Honda Takes Two Big Steps to Advance the Skills of Its Workforce,

2020).

Honda Cars India Ltd., a renowned manufacturer of automobiles, has entered into a

memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Automotive Skill Development Council

(ASDC), a non-profit organisation with headquarters in Delhi, for training and certification of

its top training facility, the Honda Vocational Training Institute (HVTI), located in Rajasthan.

HVTI (est. 2011) is Honda's cutting-edge technological training facility, which was

developed to generate career prospects for 12th Class graduates and pupils at India's 13,105

Industrial Training Institutes by teaching skilled labour with an emphasis on the automotive

industry (ITIs). With ASDC accreditation, HVTI will be able to provide youngsters with

vocational education that adheres to ASDC-established curricula and procedures. The number

of jobs available to those who complete HVTI courses will increase, improving their career

chances (Honda Takes Two Big Steps to Advance the Skills of Its Workforce, 2020).

Furthermore, to "guarantee that firm's partners who create, produce, distribute, and service

Honda items have the required knowledge and skills to excel in a globe of constantly
evolving technology," the automaker Honda said Jan. 21 that it would offer extra training

chances to 50,000 of its employees by 2025 (Honda Takes Two Big Steps to Advance the

Skills of Its Workforce, 2020).

This action is a component of the White House's Promise to America's Workers project,

which aims to increase funding for initiatives that "teach, train, and upskill American

employees from the time of high school to approaching retirement." (Honda Takes Two Big

Steps to Advance the Skills of Its Workforce, 2020).

The corporation stated that it had decided to support Creators Wanted, an initiative aimed at

boosting jobs in the industry, noting that it would also have difficulties in luring the following

generation of competent manufacturing workers. (Honda Corporate News (Honda Takes Two

Big Steps to Advance the Skills of Its Workforce, 2020).

OBSERVATIONS

So, our group observed that there is quite a lot in detail about Human Resource Management

and not just “selection of people”, as it is perceived by most people. The company Honda is

doing quite well in the field of Human resource as of now as they have a very good team of

recruiters and good employees.

RECCOMENDATIONS

Our group would recommend the company Honda to focus more on training as improving the

skills of employees after they are hired is also a very vital thing. Training can increase the

confidence and efficiency of employees, reduce wastage of resources, incresase in

productivity, etc.

CONCLUSION

So, to sum up, we would say that the company overall is doing very well specially the HR

department. The company also focusses well on equity and diversity, and the recruitment and

selection strategy which Honda follows is helping the company to grow well.

So, the project helped us to learn a lot about HR as well as other significant sectors of an

organization.
