Good morning students and Mrs Damuag, today im your little teacher,

Janel E. Gurrea and we will tackle all about the definition of the median
of a trapezoid.

I would like to give a brief introduction first on what is a trapezoid. So a

trapezoid is a quadrilateral that has only a pair of parallel sides. A
trapezoid has 2 main parts: the bases and the legs. The opposite side
that are parallel to each other is called bases and the non parallel sides
are called legs.

So if this is our trapezoid, then its bases are this and its legs are this. We
already know that a trapezoid has one parallel side, in this illustration
the parallel side are the bases. If the trapezoid is name JANE

The segment JA and segment EN are parallel to each other because the
is no possibility that they could intersect.

THE MEDIAN OF A TRAPEZOID

SO what is the median of a trapezoid?
*it is the midsegment of a trapezoid that joins the midpoint of the legs.
 The median of a trapezoid is parallel to its bases.
Lets label the midsegment LG. the segment JA is parallel to segment LG
and segment LG is parallel to segment EN.
How do we find the length of the median?
TO THE FIND LENGTH OF THE MEDIAN OF A TRAPEZOID we need to use
the formula:
MEDIAN = ½ (b1 + b2) so for example this is our trapezoid:

if the base 1 which is the segment JA is equals to 15cm and the base 2,
segment EN is equals to 5cm, lets find the length of the median using
the formula MEDIAN = ½ (b1 + b2)
so lets substitute:

MEDIAN = ½ (b1 + b2)

MEDIAN = ½ (15 +5)
MEDIAN = ½ (20)
MEDIAN = 10 therefore the length of the median is 10cm
