FIRST AID FOR SPORTS-RELATED INJURIES

1. STRAIN – an injury to a muscle or tendon


2. SPRAIN – an injury to a ligament
Treatment:
Limit the swelling by using the ICE principle

 Ice
 Compression
 Elevation

3. DEHYDRATION or HEAT EXHAUSTION


- It happens when the person is exposed to too much heat and the amount of water
intake is not enough and difficulty breathing occurs
- Symptoms
o Dry, hot skin with sweating, confusion, dizziness, and chills in the chest
- Treatment:
o 1. Remove any headgear and other heavy clothing
o 2. Douse with cold water or ice
o 3. Give cold liquids by mouth
o 4. If improvement is not quick, get help

4. ABRASION
- Are the basic skin wounds that occur when the outer layer of the skin is scraped
away. lacerations are usually deeper and more severe
- First Aid:
o 1. Carefully clean the wound beginning from the middle and wiping toward
the outer side edge.
o 2. Use a sterile and non-stick pad to dress the wound, and change it daily to
keep it clean.
o 3. The objective is to stop the bleeding and protect the wound
