1.0 SCOPE
This SEC Transmission Material Standard Specification (TMSS) specifies the minimum
technical requirements for design, engineering, manufacture, inspection, testing and
performance of Online Gas Aanalyzer for mineral oil filled reactive equipment such as
power transformer, oil filled reactors, except for instrument transformers and capacitors
intended to be used in the system of the Saudi Electricity Company, Saudi Arabia.
This Material Standard Specification shall always be read in conjunction with SEC General
Specification No. 01-TMSS-01, titled "General Requirements for All Equipment/Materials",
which shall be considered as an integral part of this TMSS.
This TMSS shall also be read in conjunction with SEC Purchase Order or Contract
Schedules for project, as applicable.
The latest revision/amendments of the following Codes and Standards shall be applicable for
the equipment/material covered in this TMSS. In case of conflict, the vendor/manufacturer
may propose equipment/material conforming to one group of Industry Codes and Standards
quoted hereunder without jeopardizing the requirements of this TMSS.
3.1 IEC 60567 Oilfilled Electrical Equipment – Sampling of Gases and of Oil
for analysis of free and Dissolved Gases - Guidance
3.4 ASTM D3612 Standard test method for Analysis of gases dissolved in
electrical insulating oil by gas chromatography.
4.1 Analysis
Power transformer rated above 100 MVA, shall be provided with the analysis
of the following as minimum:
Online Gas Analyzer shall analyse the presence of fault gases and mositure content
and the analysis shall be based on photo-Acoustic spectroscopy, gas chromatography
etc. Analysis methods are subject to SEC reivew and approval. Measurements shall
be correlated with transformer load.
The online gas analyzer shall be connected to equipment (transformer, reactor etc.,)
top oil filtration valve and bottom oil drain valve or it can be connected to radiator
isolating valves (top & bottom). Online gas analyzer shall be connected to valves
present on the same side of the equipment.
Equipment shall be suitable for outdoor mounting near power transformer and shall
comply with service conditions as specified in 01-TMSS-01.
4.7 Communication
Communication shall comply with IEC 61850 requirements and shall be suitable for
Communication Protocols from all designated locations, by SCADA to remote
master station and by Ethernet to substation HMI and by LAN or MODEM to the
Engineering Unit of Substation Maintenance and Area Oil Lab. Local and remote
communication shall be through separate channels.
For Nine fault Gases and water content online gas analyzer, alarms shall be provided
and adjustable for each gas, rate of change and gas ratios. For two fault gases and
water content online analyzer, alarm shall be provided and adjustable for gas level
and rate of change. For both type online gas analyzer, gas and water content alarm
shall be for high and too high level. Other data indication such as oil temperature, oil
pressure, transformer load, device trouble & loss of power supply, date & time of
eash sample taken and ambient air temperature shall be provided for both types of
online gas analyzer.
The analyser shall be provided with Universal Power Supply unit and shall be
suitable to operate both from AC and DC Station Auxiliary supply.
4.10 Software
PC based software shall allow full control of setting and alarms, continuous online
survey, real time logging with measurement frequancy variable from one per hour or
less. Memory for all records shall be available for minimum 6 hours after the failure
of power supply. Software shall be compatible with the SEC System.
Routine tests shall be performed per manufacturer standard on each unit. Detail proposal of
routine test shall be submitted for SEC review and approval.
