Work Instructions for AC Repair on Heavy and Light Vehicles

Gather Tools and Equipment: Before beginning the repair process, ensure that you have all the necessary
tools and equipment to complete the job. The tools and equipment required will vary depending on the
make and model of the vehicle, but may include refrigerant recovery machines, gauges, wrenches, pliers,
and vacuum pumps.

Diagnose the Problem: Use an electronic refrigerant leak detector to locate any leaks in the AC system.
Check the compressor, hoses, fittings, and condenser for any visible signs of damage or wear. If
necessary, check the system pressure to determine if there is a problem with the refrigerant.

Recover Refrigerant: Before you can begin any repairs, you must recover all of the refrigerant from the
AC system. Use a refrigerant recovery machine to remove the refrigerant and store it in an approved
container.

Repair or Replace Damaged Components: If you have identified any damaged components, such as
hoses, fittings, or the compressor, you will need to repair or replace them. Use the appropriate tools to
remove the damaged component and install the new part.

Vacuum the AC System: Once all repairs have been completed, use a vacuum pump to remove any air
and moisture from the AC system. This step is critical as air and moisture can cause damage to the
system and reduce its efficiency.

Recharge the AC System: Once the AC system has been vacuumed, recharge it with the appropriate
amount of refrigerant. Use a gauge to ensure that the pressure is at the correct level.

Test the AC System: Finally, test the AC system to ensure that it is functioning properly. Check the
temperature of the air coming from the vents and ensure that the compressor is cycling on and off as
expected. If everything is working correctly, the repair process is complete.

Note: It is important to follow all safety protocols when working with AC systems, including wearing the
appropriate personal protective equipment and following all manufacturer instructions for tools and
equipment. Additionally, proper refrigerant handling and disposal procedures should be followed in
accordance with local and federal regulations.
