Dogs are man's closest companions, and their devotion to their master is unfathomable.
Dogs are so loyal that they will sacrifice everything to stay with their owners till the end. This is
the plot of the Korean film Hearty Paws, which is a wonderful movie that will take you on an
emotional roller coaster ride. This film, made by Eun Hyung Park in 2006, depicts not only a dog's
adventure, moral teachings, and experiences but also a wake-up call about the society we live in
today.

Chan-Yi has been caring for his lovely younger sister So-Yi by himself since their mother
left them to pursue her dreams. Despite their hard situation of being abandoned by family and
neighbors, these children make every effort to live. At a one cold night, Chan Yi steals a dog as a
present for his sister, morning comes and his sister So Yi sees and appreciated the dog given by
his brother and named it Hearty, for she believes it's an answered prayer by their mother. Even
though they don't have parents, they develop a very deep and joyful bond with just the two of them
and the dog as a family over time. An accident on the ground occurs one day. On a sunny morning,
while playing in winter, the ice floor on which So Yi is standing breaks, causing her to sink in the
water and end up dead. Chan Yi refuses to accept what happened to his sister and blames it entirely
on the dog. All of those things, according to Chan Yi, would not have occurred if Hearty had not
run into the location where her sister perished.

Following what had occurred, Chan Yi set out to find his mother, leaving Hearty behind.
He finds his mother but got rejected by her, giving Chan Yi no choice but to begin a new life on
his own. Later, he meets two kids who persuade him to join them, not realizing that the group's
leader is a deceitful, greedy, and violent person. Regardless of how far Chan Yi travels from his
hometown, life always finds a way for Hearty and Chan Yi to meet. Chan Yi did everything he
could to make Hearty disappear, but the dog's loyalty and love for his owner never fades.

At this time, Chan Yi realizes that everything that happened on the day of her sister's death
was not due to anyone's negligence, but it's too late to start all over again. They've had days to chat
and bond, but Hearty dies in the final section of the story as a result of the immeasurable brutality
it experienced in the outside world, as well as starvation. The movie may not have a happy finale,
but it teaches us not to waste time with our loved ones and to persevere in life even when everything
seems to be against us.

Hearty Paw is a G-rated film that is appropriate for all ages. It is a very beautiful,
heartbreaking story that is full of moral lessons you can cherish in your life that’s why it should
be added to your watch list. It discusses happiness, forgiveness, acceptance, unconditional love,
and the societal effects of poverty.

One of the themes of the story is poverty in the society of the country where the film is set.
First, the impact of poverty on families, where some children are abandoned because their parents
are unable to fulfill their needs, as occurred to the main characters Chan Yi and So Yi. Second,
due to a lack of a place to stay, Chan Yi sleeps at the railway station. The third is the portion when
they beg for money inside the train, implying that they have no financial support other than
themselves. All of this contributes to the notion that poverty is a wound of the state that is
extremely difficult to cure.

Happiness is a choice, as one of the attributes presented in the film. The film explains that
choosing happiness over everything is the correct kind of self-healing. We can attest to this for the
siblings; despite the fact that they are orphans living in a basic house and lifestyle due to poverty,
we can see how pleased they are with just them sticking to each other and how grateful they were
to have Hearty as a member of the pack. This is one of the moral lessons that everyone should
learn: smile even through the most difficult times in life; our lives are brief, and we should make
them memorable and worthwhile.

The narrative also includes ideas like as forgiveness and acceptance. People may believe
that the movie's finale was designed in this manner to generate a joyful atmosphere for the final
section of the film. As someone who has watched it, I believe Chan Yi turn around in the latter
portion of the narrative implies that he is still looking for and waiting for someone (hearty and So-
Yi). This represents him missing his loved ones who have died, but the running of Chan Yi
represents him finally accepting all that has happened during the film. He is finally ready to
forgive himself and accept that he can’t control things the way he wants them to be.

Love is not something that can only be expressed by human beings, but also to other life
forms. The collapse of the group of the three main characters in the story happened after the death
of So-Yi. Hearty and Chan Yi part ways, but the dog’s unconditional love for family persevere.
Since it is an intelligent dog, it did everything to find Chan-Yi, even though how hard it is to live
in the outside world without the guidance of anyone. Following, Hearty found Chan Yi but still
didn’t accept its companionship, Hearty did everything to stay by Chan-Yi’s side to protect him
until its last breath. This shows that love that is not about what the person can give, but what you
can give to the person in your own free will.

Given all the values shown in the film, it is concluded and recommended being added on
everyone's watch list. If you enjoy movies with animals as the primary characters, as well as heart-
warming stories, you will enjoy this film. The film may be older than other rising movies in the
film industry, but the values it promotes are compelling enough to hold anyone's attention, so what
are you waiting for? Watch “Hearty Paws,” a fascinating film made by Eun Hyung Park.
