PEARSON BTEC HND IN COMPUTING (RQF) 06. PLANNING A COMPUTING PROJECT (LEVEL 4)
MARIAM QASIM
SCENARIO
Arfa Karim Technology Park (AKTP) is Pakistan’s largest technology software park; the first purpose built creative space in Pakistan
buzzing with innovators, mentors, change-makers and passionate leaders, focusing on cloud-based technologies.
Arfa Karim Technology Park will be collaborating with a number of software companies to create new software solutions. Arfa
Karim Technology Park wishes to create research opportunities for new researchers in education sector and software engineers
have been given a chance to work as junior researchers for AKTP. The aim of AKTP is actively looking to minimize its carbon
footprint and reduce environmental damage.
You are also titled as a Software Project Manager and assigned with a computing project related to the theme of “The
Environmental Impact of Digital Transformation”. You are required to participate in the event and complete the required tasks.
You have to select the following topic:
Trade-offs and synergies of cloud data centres in minimising the environmental footprint.
Your team has to evaluate the environmental impact of cloud data centres, relating to trade-offs and synergies. This will be a
formal project and you will be submitting it for panel review at multiple stages hence, you must ensure that you keep a complete
project trail along with all the required documentation and planning schedules.
You have 16 weeks to complete this project and submit your report to the department for review.
While following the project planning approach, you will identify the aims and objectives for your project and will develop a formal
project plan dealing with environmental impact of data centres using an appropriate project management tool. Your plan must
cover the aspects like scope, cost, time, quality, risk, and resources required for the trade-offs of cloud data centres with formal
identification of main achievement points. You will follow the proper project management lifecycle approach while developing
your project plan as well as throughout your project.
You must understand the importance of collecting data from a variety of sources. During your requirement gathering or system
evaluation activity, you will use both qualitative and quantitative research methods to identify requirements for meeting the aims
and objectives of the project, and based on your gathered information, you will evaluate the accuracy and reliability of the project
management and research methodologies used. Moreover, you must consider was in which secondary data can be used.
After completing this part, you will start working on your project.
Once your project is completed, you will be required to analyse the outcomes and present your recommendations to the panel
in the form of a report and presentation. Make sure that your recommendations are based on valid, accurate and meaningful
conclusions. You should also include an evaluation of tools and techniques used at project development stages.
Once you have analysed and closed the project, you are required to give a self-reflection of the whole project as to how the
project management processes and research skills facilitated you in meeting aims and objectives, towards your own learning and
how it valued towards the organizational performance.
Furthermore, you will maintain a Logbook for all the activities that you have performed during the life span of this project and
will include it in your evidence for submission. You must also undertake a critical evaluation of the project outcomes and the
decision-making processes. This reflection will allow you to compare the initial project plan with the end results.
