Context

The sharing economy takes a new approach to traditional consumerism. This concept applies a hybrid form
of ownership and renting, whereby those with the goods and/or services “share” with those that require that
good or service. However, with the provided convenience of the internet, everything has been made more
accessible. The sharing economy is not without its problems and governments around the world have
regulated conditions in which these businesses operate for fairer outcomes for businesses and consumers.

Task

Create a research report (1500-2000 words) analysing one business that has contributed to the
sharing economy. Examine the economic disruption your selected business has had on the relevant
market. Evaluate the State and Federal Government’s imposed regulations to ensure fair business
practices for competitors and consumers.

Some suggested businesses include UBER, Airbnb and Afterpay from the public transport,
accommodation or retail markets.

To complete this task, you must:

 ensure sufficient data and economic information exists before finalising your choice of market
 select data and economic information from sources, and include a reference list and citations
 demonstrate within the report comprehension of economic concepts, principles and models relevant
to the price mechanism
Include the demand and supply factors relevant to the market and analysis of the economic cause–
effect relationships evident in supply and demand patterns. The focus of this analysis should be the
overall trends.
 format the research report appropriately, including a cover page, headings and subheadings, page
numbers, images, graphs and so on.
 Evaluate the effectiveness of relevant State and Federal Government regulations to provide
conditions that enable fair business practices
