a. Definition
Procedure text is a text that explains or helps us how
to make or use something.
A manual is a book or pamphlet that contains
information about a program or piece of hardware.

b. Social Function
- It is used to describe how something is done in
sequenced steps.
- It provides a series of steps in sequence that explain
the readers how to do something while allowing
them to reach the outcome successfully.
- The communicative purpose of the text is to tell the
steps of making or doing something.
c. Generic structure
- Goal/aim: this part of the text describes the purpose
of doing or operating something.
- Materials/equipment: this part describes the
materials or equipments needed in the process of
doing or operating something. It is important to note
that some of procedure texts do not provide
materials section.
- Steps/methods : This part describes the set of
instructions in order to achieve the goal

d. Sinificant Lexico- Grammatical Features


- Generally using simple present tense
- Using adverbial of sequence or using temporal
adjective to describe the order in which two or more
actions happen. For example first, second, the last,
etc.
- Using imperative sentences or command.
- Using action verbs.
- Using conjunctions to link a process to another
process.
- Using adverb of time to express details of time.

a. Definition
A recipe is a list of ingredients and a set of
instructions that tell you how to cook something
b. Social function
- Recipe is used to describe how food is completely
made or cooked through a sequence of series.
- Communicative purpose of recipe is to describe how
food is completely made through a sequence of
actions or steps.
c. Generic structure
- Goal/aim
- Ingredients
- Steps
d. Language feature
- Use noun or noun groups
- Use conjunction
- Use action verb
- Use imperative
- Use adverbial
- Use common Vocabulary and language for recipes.

3. Learning Activity 3: Procedure Text ; Itinerary


a. Definition
Itinerary can be defined as a route of journey, it can
be a plan or guide book of travel. It usually contains
any information dealing with travel or journey such
as schedule of visit (vacation), time, dates,
transportation, and other information.
b. Social function
- To make a well-prepared program or travel
- To make an effective journey or travel
- To be a guideline in spending time during
travelling

c. Generic structure
- Tour program
- Timetable
- Duration
- Destination
- 4As (attraction, accessibility, accommodation, and
amenities)
d. Grammatical language feature
- Use simple present tense.
- Use action verb.
- Use simple sentences or phrases

4. Learning Activity 4: News Item


a. Definition
News item text is a text which informs readers about
events of the day. The events are considered
newsworthy or important.
b. Social function
To inform the readers, listeners or viewers about
events of the days which is considered newsworthy
or important especially about recent or important
events in chronological order.
c. Generic structure
- Main Events / Newsworthy event.
- Elaboration / Background event
- Resource of Information (Source)
d. Language feature
- Using action verb
- Using saying verb (Saying verbs are verbs such as say
or ask which we typically use to report what
someone said).
Here are some examples of saying verbs: - "Why can’t
I sleep?" he asked. - Miss Lee said that it looked like a
job for Granny Gong. [indirect speech] - He told me
that he couldn't sleep
- Using passive voice
- Using adverb
- Using past tense
- Using clear and detailed language.
5. Adverbial is word or phrase functioning like an adverb.
6. Saying verbs are verbs such as say or ask which we
typically use to report what someone said.
