Use the Motometer-Plug:
• Remove the cluster.
• Connect the power plug with the instrument and press the 4 pin
programming plug into the fitting hole:
• Connect the Motometer-Plug with the Tacho Universal .
• Select the menue Volkswagen-Golf 3-VDO +Screws-Diagnosis
• The Tacho Universal does not show you the old value.
• Enter the new value.
• Verify the new value with OK.

Use this board and clip:
• Remove the cluster and open it.
• Look for the 8 pin Chip 93C46.
• Connect the clip to Port 1.
• Put the clip on the Chip 93C46.
• Select the menue Volkswagen-Golf 3- VDO Torx
• The Tacho Universal shows you the old value.
• Select the menue Adjust KM.

• Connect the Motometer-Plug with the Tacho Universal
• Select the menue Volkswagen-Golf 3-MM SW 4.0-6.4-Diagnosis

• Look for the silver crystal and join its contacts.

Diagnostic programming
Use the OBD II – Plug:
• The diagnostic port is behind a cover under the radio.
• Turn ignition on
• Connect the Tacho Universal with the OBD II plug and the diagnostic port.
• Select the menue Volkswagen-Golf 4-Diagnosis VDO
Note:
You can distinguish between VDO and MotoMeter with the program Service:
Æ VDO is called VDO
Æ MotoMeter is called MM or BOO

• Remove the cluster and open it (the needles have to be removed ).
• Put the clip on the Chip (RED on Pin1).
• Select the menue : VOLKSWAGEN – GOLF 4 – Clip – VDO green o. VDO

Use the OBD II - Plug:
• Select the menue Volkswagen-Golf 4-Diagnosis MM
• Switch ignition off.
• Remove the fuse of the instrument for a few seconds.

Use these plugs:

OBD II Audi A6 old VW new
Connect those plugs together. If the VW new does not fit to the A6 old, you
have to remove one of the pins in the A6 old plug. You can see which one it is,
otherwise the plugs will not fit together. The A6 plug will still keep all
functions!
• Connect the Tacho Universal with the plug and the diagnostic port.
• Select the menue Volkswagen-Golf 4-Diagnosis VDO 2001
Note:

• Select the menue Volkswagen-Golf 4-Diagnosis MM 2001
• Now you have to enter the code for the search program: 0000
• Now the program searches the access code. This can take a while, the
Tacho Universal shows you the actual state.
• If the program has found the access code the new value will be
programmed.

If this takes too long for you, you can also program the eeprom
directly:
1. Remove the cluster and open it (the needles have to be removed ).
2. Look for the 8 pin Chip 24C02.
3. Connect the clip to Port 3.
4. Put the clip on the Chip (RED on Pin1).
5. Select the menue Volkswagen-Golf 4- Clip- MM Clip ´98
6. The Tacho Universal shows you the old value.
7. Select the menue Adjust KM.
8. Enter the new value.
9. Verify the new value with OK.

• Look for the silver crystal near the chip and join its contacts.

• Set to 0. Now the display shows about 20 km.
• Now adjust the mileage.
• Now put back in the code you have written down.
Note:
If the display says ERROR repeat everything with a different value!

OBD II Audi A6 old VW new
Connect those plugs together. If the VW new does not fit to the A6 old, you
have to remove one of the pins in the A6 old plug. You can see which one it is,
otherwise the plugs will not fit together. The A6 plug will still keep all
functions!
• The diagnostic port near your left knee when you sit on the driver´s seat.
• Connect the Tacho Universal with the plug and the diagnostic port.
• Select the menue VW-Sharan-Sharan 2000-Diagnosis

• Remove the buttons at the bottom of the instrument.
• Remove the plastic cover.
• Now you see on the right side a small blck cover that is protected with a
red plastic button. You have to break and remove this red button to get
access to the programming contacts.
• Connect the Kienzle-Plug with the programming contacts (red mark up)
and the Tacho Universal.
• Select the menue Mercedes-Sprinter-Kienzle-Diagnosis

Before reading the channels, you will see some information about the instrument:
MM0 or B00 : Motometer

MM4 or M73 : Magneti Marelli
TRW : TRW

Example: VW Golf4
The Tacho reads out the „SERVICE“. Now you can check the important
channels for this car (Golf 4 - channels 10, 11 & 12).
Channel 10: Actual Oilservice-value

Channel 11: Actual 30000 Service-value
Channel 12: Actual Year/Day-Service-value
You have to program the channels 10 and 11, the value of the oilservice will be
1-down-counted every 1000km, the Service-value also.
Example: original KM-value : 13250km

New KM-value : 11250km
The KM-value was corrected down for 2000 km.
The channels shows these values:
Channel 10 : 2
Channel 11 : 17
Also the Service has to be corrected for 2000km, so the car must go to the
service 2000km later. The Golf 4 has the service in 1000km steps (see table), so
the channels must be corrected for 2000 km / 1000 = 2. So you program the
channels 10 and 11 a +2 value as original.
Channel 10 : 4
Channel 11 : 19
Don´t program channel 12, because here are the days to the next service. The
Day-Service-value is normally not for programming.
If you want to adjust a channel search the channel with the Cursor-keys and
press the “OK”-button. On the display you see the old value and you can type
in the new one.
Example:
VAG 2000
The Tacho Universal reads out the „SERVICE“. If a service is blinking, you can set it off,
by writing a “0” in channel 2. In channel 40 are shown the km after the last
service. For example: The last service should be 3000km ago, then type in
channel 40 the value 30 = „3000 / 100 = 30”.
