His works were also a major referent in the events leading to what

happened before, during, and after magellan and his crews arrival

and death in the phillipines and also their encounter with

indigenous and local leaders (Datu), how they tried to spread the

gospel of their religion to the locals, how they made the locals

burn old pre colonial items used to worship different types of

deities before christianity was spread in their villages, And finally

what was left of magellans fleet after magellan and his crew fought
lapu lapu's men.

March 6, 1521 GO TO

LADRONES

ISLAND

The book covers Antonio pigafetta's and Magellan's

experiences in Visayas.

It said that "Their Fleet reached what he called the ladrones

Islands or the "Islands of the thieves"

"These people have no arms but their weapons have fishbones

attached at the end of each stick that they're holding, They

are rather poor but ingenious and very great thieves and

because of that we called these three islands the Ladrones

Islands".

The three islands mentioned in Pigafetta's works are now

presently known as Nothern Mariana Islands located at the

east of Philippines.

INFO

On March 16, 1521, Pigafetta reported that they had reached the island of

"Zamal" which is now presently named as "Samar" but magellan

suggested that they land on a different island supposedly uninhabited so

that him and his crew could rest for a few days.

Shortly after 2 days, March 18, Nine men came to them and showed

joy and eagerness in seeing them and welcomed them with food,

drinks, and gifts. the natives gave them all sorts of food and drinks

such as Fish, Palm Wine (Uraca), Figs, Cochos, Rice (Umai), Cocos.

March 25, 1521

March 25, they saw 2 ballangai (balangay) the leader named

king (Raia Siagu) sent his men to the ship of magellan.

He offered magellan a bar of gold and a chest full of ginger

but magellan declined saying he needs Money for the needs

of his ship and the king responded by giving them needed

provisions and food in chinaware.

April 7, 1521
April 7,1521 Magellan reached Cebu which was known as the largest and richest

of all the islands. he was helped by Raia Calambu. overtime Magellan met the

king of Cebu named (Rajah Humabon) he demanded that they pay tribute as it

was customary but Magellan refused said he was the captain himself and thus

would not pay tribute to any other king.

They met in an open space and the king offered a bit of his blood and

demanded Magellan to do the same and then the king of Cebu was

contented.

April 14, 1521 MORE INFO

April 14, 1521 Magellan instructed the king to be a good Christian and burn all

the idols and that they should start worshipping the cross instead eventually

the king of Cebu was baptized as Christians

after that the king and all his people answered that they should obey and

follow the commands of the captain and do all that he told them.

After 8 days all of the inhabitants in the islands were fully baptized.

Pigafetta even admitted that they burned a village down

for obeying neither the king nor magellan and masses

more information

Pigafetta described the Inhabitants of the island as

"Very Familiar and Friendly"

- They willingly showed them different islands and the names of each islands they encountered.

They also went to "Humunu Island" (homonhon) where they found first signs if gold in the island.

They named the nearby islands as the "Archipelago of St. Lazarus"

FUN FACT !!

The word barangay originated from the word ballangai (balangay)

which means a long boat full of people from different types of

islands and now the word is used to distribute different specified

areas all around the city.

FUN FACT !!

The tradition of giving blood to pay tribute is called "Sanduguan" or Blood compact

which intends to seal a friendship between two supposed leaders or to validate an

agreement it is performed by cutting their hands and then they would pour their

blood into a cup filled with liquid such as wine and then they would drink the mixture

When the Queen (Raha Amihan) came to the mass Magellan handed her

an image of the infant jesus made by Pigafetta himself

April 26, 1521
April 26 a man from the island of mactan went to see

mgellan and ask him a boat of men so that he could fight

the chief named "Silalapulapu" (Lapu Lapu)

According to Zula "Lapu Lapu" refused to obey the king

and was also preventing him to do so.

Magellan with his three boats went to mactan to fight lapu

lapu himself and refused help from king Raha Humabon

because Magellan wanted them to see how Spaniards

Fight.

NEXT
April 27, 1521 (Battle of Mactan) MORE INFO

They arrived at mactan in daylight with 49 men and the

islanders of mactan and warriors were estimated to

number 1500 person in total magellan and his crew were

heavily outnumbered thus resulting in their loss and also

resulting in magellan's death.

Magellan was pierced in the leg by a poisoned arrow and

was beaten and sliced to death by the islanders of mactan

and They kept magellan's body as a memento of their

victory.

Septembe 6, 1522 (Battle of Mactan)
After 1 year and 4 months Pigafetta lived to tell

the tale, he has suffered numerous battle

wounds but he succesfully returned to spain in

1522 and out of 240 men that was sent out with

Ferdinand Magellan Pigafetta was one of only 18

remaining men that made it back to spain alive.

NEXT
LAST FUN FACT !!
According to my research i found out that Lapu lapu was indeed a pirate before and that's specifically

the reason why him and humabon's (king of cebu) friendship deteriorated because lapu lapu and his

crew began raiding merchant ships passing the island of opong affecting trades in Sugbo and it also

affected Humabon's revenues also this is the reason why lapu lapu's island was named "Mangatang"

which means (Those who lie in wait) later evolving to "Mactan".

Most of The islanders were not harmed by the guns that

the spaniard carried and they started throwing javelins,

spears and poisoned arrows at magellan and his crewmen

until almost all of them died with pigafetta almost
