ALICE MUNRO
BIOGRAPHY
Alice Munro was born in Wingham,
Ontario in 1931 and grew up on a fox
and mink farm. She attended Western
University but left after two years to
move to Vancouver with her first
husband.

She then moved to Victoria and raised


three daughters. After divorcing her
husband, she remarried in 1976 and
continues to live in Ontario until now.

Munro is one of the greatest


Canadian short story writers of
all time - winning three
Governor General’s Awards,
the National Book Critics Circle
Prize, the PEN/Malamud
Award, and the 2013 Nobel
Prize in Literature.

She is only the 2nd Canadian


and 13th Woman to ever do so
in the 122+ year history of the
prize.
