INTEGRATED IGNITION ASSEMBLY (11A) Report a problem with this article

COMPONENTS FOR REMOVAL AND


INSTALLATION

11A REMOVAL
(See Components for Removal and Installation)
1. DISCONNECT NEGATIVE TERMINAL CABLE FROM
BATTERY
CAUTION: Work must be started after 90 seconds from
the time the ignition switch is truned to the ’LOCK’
position and the negative (-) terminal cable is dis-
connceted from the battery.

2. DISCONNECT HIGH-TENSION CORDS FROM


DISTRIBUTOR CAP
(a) Using a screwdriver, lift up the lock claw and discon-
nect the holder from the distributor cap.

(b) Disconnect the high-tension cord at the grommet.


DO NOT pull on the cord.
NOTICE: Pulling on or bending the cords may damage the
conductor inside.
3. DISCONNECT DISTRIBUTOR CONNECTORS

4. REMOVE IIA
(a) Remove the 2 mounting bolts, and pull out the distrib-
utor.
(b) Remove the O-ring from the distributor housing.

IIA DISASSEMBLY
(See Components for Disassembly and Assembly)
1. REMOVE DISTRIBUTOR CAP
Remove the 3 bolts and distributor cap.

2. REMOVE ROTOR
3. REMOVE IGNITION COIL DUST COVER
(a) Remove the dust cover.
(b) Remove the gasket.

4. REMOVE IGNITION COIL


(a) Remove the 2 nuts, and disconnect the 4 wires from
the ignition coil terminals.

(b) Remove the 4 screws and ignition coil.

5. REMOVE IGNITER
(a) Remove the 3 screws, and disconnect the 3 wires
from the igniter terminals.

(b) Remove the 2 screws and igniter.

6. REMOVE CORD CLAMP AND DISTRIBUTOR WIRE


(a) Disconnect the 2 connectors from the cord clamp.

(b) Remove the screw and cord clamp.

(c) Remove the distributor wire from the distributor hous-


ing.

7. REMOVE CONDENSER
Remove the screw and condenser.

IIA INSPECTION
INSPECT SHAFT
Turn the shaft and check that it is not rough or worn.
If it feels rough or worn, replace the distributor hous-
ing assembly.

11A ASSEMBLY
(See Components for Disassembly and Assembly)
1. INSTALL CONDENSER
Install the condenser with the screw.

2. INSTALL DISTRIBUTOR WIRE AND CORD CLAMP


(a) Install the grommet of the wire to the distributor
housing.

(b) Install the cord clamp with the screw.

(c) Install the 2 connectors to the cord clamp.

3. INSTALL IGNITER
(a) Install the igniter with the 2 screws.

(b) Connect the 3 wires to the igniter terminals with the 3


screws.

4. INSTALL IGNITION COIL


(a) Remove any old packing (FIPG) material.
(b) Apply seal packing to the ignition coil installing sur-
face of the housing as shown in the illustration.
Seal packing:
Part No. 08826-00080 or equivalent

(c) Install the ignition coil with the 4 screws.

(d) Connect the 4 wires to the ignition coil terminals with


the 2 nuts as shown in the illustration.

NOTICE:
• When connecting the wi res to the ignition coil,
insert both properly into their grooves found on the
side of the ignition coil.
• Be su re the wires do not contact with signal rotor or
distributor housing.

5. INSTALL IGNITION COIL DUST COVER


(a) Install a new gasket to the distributor housing.

(b) Install the dust cover.

Install the distributor cap with the 3 bolts.

IIA INSTALLATION
(See Components for Removal and Installation)
1. SET NO.1 CYLINDER TO TDC/COMPRESSION
Turn the crankshaft clockwise, and position the slit of
the intake camshaft as shown in the illustration.

2. INSTALL IIA
(a) Install a new O-ring to the distributor housing.
(b) Apply a light coat of engine oil on the 0- ring.

(c) Align the cutout portion of the coupling with the


protrusion of the housing.
(d) Insert the IIA, aligning the center of the flange with
that of the bolt hole on the cylinder head.

(e) Lightly tighten the 2 mounting bolts.

3. CONNECT HIGH-TENSION CORDS TO


DISTRIBUTOR CAP
(a) Connect the holder and grommet portion to the dis-
tributor cap as shown in the illustration.

NOTICE: Check that the holder is correctly installed to


the grommet and distributor cap as shown in the illustra-
tion.

(b) Check that the lock claw of the holder is engaged by


lightly pulling the holder.

4. CONNECT DISTRIBUTOR CONNECTORS


5. CONNECT NEGATIVE TERMINAL CABLE TO
BATTERY
6. WARM UP ENGINE
Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating
temperature.

7. CONNECT TACHOMETER AND TIMING LIGHT TO


ENGINE
Connect the test probe of a tachometer to terminal IG
(-) of the data link connector 1.
NOTICE:
• Never allow the tachometer terminal to touch
ground as it could result in damage to the igniter
and/or ignition coil.

• As some tachometers are not compatible with this


ignition system, we recommend that you confirm
the compatibility of your unit before use.
8. ADJUST IGNITION TIMING
(a) Using SST, connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the data
link connector 1.
SST 09843-18020

(b) Using a timing light, check the ignition timing.


Ignition timing:
10° BTDC @ idle
(Transmission in neutral)

(c) Loosen the 2 mounting bolts, and adjust by turning


the IIA.
(d) Tighten the mounting bolts, and recheck the ignition
timing.
Torque: 20 N-m (200 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf)

(e) Remove SST from the data link connector 1.

9. FURTHER CHECK IGNITION TIMING


IGNITION TIMING:
5 - 15 ° BTDC @ idle
(Transmission in neutral)’
HINT: The timing mark moves in a range between 5 °
and 15 ° .
10. DISCONNECT TACHOMETER AND TIMING LIGHT
FROM ENGINE
