SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT
GOALS FOR 2030
United Nations have developed the Sustainable Development
Goals to be complete by 2030. These goals in their entirely
encompass the entire spectrum of development across
nations, however Goals 1–6 directly address health
disparities, primarily in developing countries. These six goals
address key issues in global public health, poverty, hunger
and food security, health, education, gender equality and
women's empowerment, and water and sanitation. Public
health officials can use these goals to set their own agenda
and plan for smaller scale initiatives for their organizations.
These goals are designed to lessen the burden of disease
and inequality faced by developing countries and lead to a
healthier future. The links between the various sustainable
development goals and public health are numerous and well
established

OF HUMAN RIGHTS

himself and of his family, including food,

beyond his control.
WHY IS THERE A LAW ABOUT PUBLIC
HEALTH AND HUMAN RIGHTS?

All Filipinos are given fair access to high-

quality, reasonably-priced health care
supplies and services, as well as protection
from financial risk.
Every Filipino is protected from health risks and
dangers and has access to inexpensive, high-
quality, and easily accessible health services
that are appropriate for their requirements
that are credited to the UHC or Universal
Health Care.
APPLICATION
TO Human rights are something that protect

THEOLOGY
us from injustice and unfairness. When
applied to theology, it teaches that
human dignity can be protected and a
healthy community can be achieved if our
human rights are protected and our
responsibilities are fulfilled. To be religious
is part of our rights, including the freedom
of thought, conscience and religion. It is
important to make sure that we are not
forced to believe in what we don't, not
forced to be stuck.
APPLICATION
Health is more important than
physical in relation to theology, TO
as both physical and spiritual
presence are needed to restore THEOLOGY
one's health. St. Ignatius of
Loyola states that health is just
as important as practicing
religion, and that to be well, one
must serve god and spread their
word with positively and love.
ON RELIGION AND
PUBLIC HEALTH
How Societal Views Have Changed

The marketisation of healthcare implies a kind of paradigm shift away from, or

transformation of, public, solidary or communal ideas and structures of healthcare provision
towards individual health-producers and consumers as the ultimate reference point. The
transformation is complex, involving economic as much as political, cultural and hence
moral elements. Whilst some contributors suggest the marketisation of healthcare
pervasively threatens the integrity of medical practice, others are not fundamentally
opposed to healthcare marketisation, but rather seek to discipline possible excesses.
WHAT ROLE DO THEOLOGY
AND RELIGION HAVE TO PLAY
IN THE WORLD OF
HEALTHCARE?

CONCEPT 1 CONCEPT 2
By bringing theological and religious traditions Just like culture, religion can act as a
of enquiry concerning themes such as social determinant of health. Many

adopt changed outlooks and practice.
UPHOLDING HUMAN RIGHTS IN A
STATE OF PUBLIC HEALTH
EMERGENCY
The Filipino government
implemented a statewide
lockdown as part of the
emergency measures, which
severely restricts freedom of
movement and the right to free
speech. Those found guilty of
publishing false information can
face up to 1 million pesos in fines
or two months in prison.
UPHOLDING HUMAN RIGHTS IN A
STATE OF PUBLIC HEALTH
EMERGENCY
The lockdown in the Philippines has been used to harass activists and
those affiliated with armed rebel organizations. Local government
representatives are abusing their authority by mistreating people who
disobey lockdown regulations, such as forcing LGBTQ+ people into
indecent acts and locking them in dog cages. These "punishments" are
humiliating and intended to degrade a person much more than is
customary. The outright and unrestricted prohibition of torture and other
cruel, inhuman, or humiliating treatment or punishment exists
everywhere. Even the most important people are being treated unfairly,
such as doctors, nurses and other hospital staff.
UPHOLDING HUMAN RIGHTS IN A
STATE OF PUBLIC HEALTH
EMERGENCY
Hospitals are overcrowded due to lack of beds and
medical staff, and PPE are overworked and underpaid
due to mismanagement.
The Philippines must take a long and challenging road
to recover from the public health crisis. Protecting the
rights of the populace and upholding the ideals of
democracy and the rule of law are essential for the
country's survival. People should not be taken
advantage of due to restrictions, and should be
treated with equal rights.
