ABSTRACT
MTRC provides instant interaction between the train crew , the station master and the
control centre. The calls can be connected within 300 milliseconds once dialled through
TETRA .MTRC acts in a similar way as Air Traffic Control (ARC) does for an aircraft. The
system Monitors and tracks the movements of the train and frequency of TETRA is 380-
395MHZ. The MTRC system will help in tracking, monitoring and aiding to establish the
communication between trains and control room by using the train number and cab number
code. Thus, the system will ensure that there is smooth movement of rakes. It will also help
in preventing the adverse events. It will also help in providing the real time information
regarding the train operation during monsoon period.
Design and approval :
The provision of a new Digital MTRC system was sanctioned at an outlay of Rs. 5.98
crore which also provides two years warranty and five years Annual Maintenance
Charges (AMC). The design and approval for the new Towers was given by IIT and
Western Railways headquarter.
Technology used in MTRC :
MTRC System is a Terrestrial Trunk Radio (TETRA) based Digital technology. It
employs the TDMA on the Air Interface and Internet Protocol based Network
Architecture.
Features of MTRC system :
The MTRC system have the feature of the Single touch dialling to call Two Section Train
Controllers, EMU Controller, Dy. Train Controller and to make Emergency call. It also
provides for Automatic Call Answer for the Cab Radios of the Motorman and Guards.
INTRODUCTION
MTRC provides instant interaction between the train crew , the station master and

aircraft. The system Monitors and tracks the movements of the train and frequency of
TETRA is 380-395MHZ.The Mobile Train Radio Communication system is an effective
and a technologically advanced communication system which can play an intrinsic role
in preventing train accidents and reducing delays through effective communication. It
was also mentioned that, earlier, the existing very high frequency (VHF) based
communication does not give facility for communication between the crew of running
train and controllers of Control Office. Status of mobile train radio communication
system based on GSM-R and TETRA over Indian Railways.

GSM(R) = Global System for Mobile Communication-Railway.

TETRA = Terrestrial Trunk Radio

TETRA provides a very reliable and efficient communication solution supporting various
call types and mission-critical narrowband data. Train operators can be assured of very
high reliability and instantaneous communication during normal and emergency
situations.

Consort Digital TETRA based MTRC solution provides the following benefits

 Loud and clear audio with reduction in background noise in driver cabin.

 Good coverage across entire railway track.

 Secure communication with no interference.

 Extremely high spectrum efficiency therefore scalable for future requirements.

 Advanced call features such as Individual call, Group call and Emergency call.

 Narrow band data for critical applications such as alarms and status messages.

 Integration with Train Management System [TMS].
