14(a) Explain the steady state analysis of the single phase fully Controlled converter fed
separately excited DC motor Drive for continuous current mode. Also explain its CO2 K3
Operation in motoring and regenerative braking mode.

(b) A separately excited dc motor operating from a single phase half controlled
bridge at a speed of 1400 rpm has an input voltage of 330 sin314t and a
back emf of 80 V. The SCR are fired symmetrically at α= 30˚ in every half
CO2 K4
cycle. The armature has a resistance of 4 ohms. Calculate the average
armature current and the motor torque.

15(a) Describe the steady state analysis of the single phase fully Controlled converter fed CO2 K3
separately excited DC motor drive for discontinuous conduction mode.
Or
(b) A single-phase full converter is used to control the speed of small separately excited CO2
d.c. motor rated at 5 hp, 110V, 1200 rpm as shown in Fig.1. The converter is
connected to a single – phase 120 V, 50 Hz supply. The armature resistance is Ra =
0.40 ohm and the armature circuit inductance is La = 5 mH. The motor voltage
constant is Ke Φ = 0.09 V/rpm.
With the converter operates as a rectifier , the d.c. motor runs at 1000 rpm and carries
an armature current of 30 A . Assume that the motor current is continuous, K4
determine:
(a) The firing angle α.
(b) The power delivered to the motor.
(c) The supply power factor.

16(a) Explain in detail the multi quadrant operation of low Speed hoist in speed torque plane. CO1 K3

(b) A motor drives two loads. One has rotational motion. It is coupled to the motor through a
reduction gear with i= = 0.1 and efficiency of 90%. The load has a moment of inertia of
10 Kg-m2 and a torque of 10 N-m. Other load has translational motion and consists of
1000 Kg weight to be lifted up an uniform speed of 1.5 m/s. Coupling between this load CO1 K4
and the motor has an efficiency of 85%.Motor has an inertia of 0.2 Kgm2 and runs at a
constant speed of 1420 rpm. Determine the equivalent inertia referred to the motor shaft
and power developed by the motor.
