(b) Explain four quadrant operation of chopper fed Dc drive CO2 K2
14(a) Explain the steady state analysis of the single phase fully Controlled converter fed
separately excited DC motor Drive for continuous current mode. Also explain its CO2 K3
Operation in motoring and regenerative braking mode.
Or
(b) A separately excited dc motor operating from a single phase half controlled
bridge at a speed of 1400 rpm has an input voltage of 330 sin314t and a
back emf of 80 V. The SCR are fired symmetrically at α= 30˚ in every half
CO2 K4
cycle. The armature has a resistance of 4 ohms. Calculate the average
armature current and the motor torque.
15(a) Describe the steady state analysis of the single phase fully Controlled converter fed CO2 K3
separately excited DC motor drive for discontinuous conduction mode.
Or
(b) A single-phase full converter is used to control the speed of small separately excited CO2
d.c. motor rated at 5 hp, 110V, 1200 rpm as shown in Fig.1. The converter is
connected to a single – phase 120 V, 50 Hz supply. The armature resistance is Ra =
0.40 ohm and the armature circuit inductance is La = 5 mH. The motor voltage
constant is Ke Φ = 0.09 V/rpm.
With the converter operates as a rectifier , the d.c. motor runs at 1000 rpm and carries
an armature current of 30 A . Assume that the motor current is continuous, K4
determine:
(a) The firing angle α.
(b) The power delivered to the motor.
(c) The supply power factor.
