In 2021, I participated in a ’21-day challenge’ put forward
by Bookleaf Publishing, in which I had two write a poem a day for 21 days. My collection of poetry, called ‘His and Hers,’ was a story of love and loss, of guilt and trauma, and ultimately, of grief. It followed two unnamed characters as they dealt with these universal human emotions, and how they coped with them. Becoming so invested in the stories of characters that I had created was a truly cathartic experience, especially since- much like real life- there were no happy endings guaranteed for them. Writing this collection was an incredibly rewarding experience, and was something I enjoyed greatly. When this collection was selected for publication, I was exposed to different aspects of the publishing process, from drafting to illustrations to cover art. Not only was I able to experience something completely new to me, but I was able to participate fully in this process; for example, I explored different aesthetics, finally settling on line art and minimalism as the central theme for the art in the book. A few hundred copies of the book have been sold on Amazon.
