ECO RESORT
WHAT IS A ECO-RESORT ?
Eco resort is an environmentally sustainable accommodation that has made important environmental improvements to its structure in
order to minimize its impact on the natural environment. The basic definition of an eco-friendly hotel is an environmentally
responsible lodging that follows the practices of green living.

ECOLABELING OF HOTELS GLOBALLY

In 2008, the Global Sustainable Tourism Council Criteria was launched at the IUCN World Conservation Congress . The Criteria,
managed by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, created a global standard for sustainable travel and tourism and includes
criteria and performance indicators for destinations, tour operators and hotels. The GSTC provides accreditation through a third-party
to Certification Bodies to legitimize claims of sustainability.

CHARACTERISTIC OF ECOLOGICAL TOURISM:

1. minimizing environmental impacts,
2. respecting host cultures,
3. maximizing the benefits to local people, and
4. maximizing tourist satisfaction.

FUNCTION OF ECO RESORT

Eco-resorts covers water conservation, waste management, energy production and conservation, environmental conservation, plant
and animal protection, air, water and soil protection and environmental education. It accommodates and entertains visitors in a way
that does not disturb the environment or damage the environment and preserves and supports traditional culture. The focus of
development will be on the conservation of natural resources through a flexible design approach and critical planning in the context
of the environment.

SYNOPSIS

ECO TOURISM
Eco tourism: The key principles of ecotourism include minimizing impact, protecting biodiversity, building environmental awareness,
and respecting local culture. Typically, the primary attractions for ecotourists are flora, fauna, and cultural heritage.
Sustainable tourism : It mainly support environmental conservation, social development, and local economies. Examples of
sustainable practices include conserving water and energy, supporting community conservation projects, recycling and treating wastes,
hiring staff from the local community, paying them just wages and providing training, and sourcing locally-produced products for
restaurants and gift shops

Why eco tourism

Tourism, especially when unchecked, can do a lot of damage to local environments, from harming delicate coral reefs to polluting
rainforests. There is even hard evidence that it accounts for 8 per cent of greenhouse gases, and that the foot traffic through national
parks damages the very wonders people go there to enjoy.
Travelling isn’t always sustainable, but 10 per cent of the world’s population (especially in many developing countries) depends on the
industry. So, it’s important that we look after the planet if we don’t care for places there will be nowhere left to visit.
For example, the Soneva Fushi in the Maldives has made huge commitments to being zero carbon.

Tourism is the activity of traveling to places for leisure. Tourism can also refer to the commercial organization and operation of holidays
and visits to places of interest. Ecotourism is a special category of tourism, which is concerned with the conservation of nature and
sustaining the well-being of local people.
The key difference between tourism and ecotourism lies in this involvements with nature; tourism is not much concerned about the
well-being of local people and conservation of nature, but ecotourism tries to create a minimal impact on the people and on the
environment.

Motivation/ reason for selection of the project

With the development of sustainability a new term eco resort came in play . Eco resort have positive impact on nature without
compromising the user experience that fascinated me a lot.

AIM
To develop environmentally and culturally sensitive, economically beneficial (especially for the locals), and sustainable
infrastructure of resort for ecotourism destinations without compromising the comfort, safety, security, hygiene, and experience of
the tourists and to present a good example of sustainable development.

OBJECTIVE
➢ To adopt design strategies that respond well to the local context, geography, and local climate.
➢ To design using passive strategies considering functional requirements of each building type, their adjoining road and
pedestrian accesses, as well as in response to their surrounding landscape features
➢ To use material palette that is locally available and rapidly renewable
➢ To find out the strategies that are being used and new strategies that we could use to make the infrastructure of the destinations
more sustainable or environment responsive.
➢ To design a diverse range of recreational activities and spaces that stimulates tourism.
➢ Promoting indigenous culture including traditional handicrafts within the zone.

PATHANKOT
HISTORY
Pathankot was a part of the Nurpur princely state, ruled by the Pathania Rajputs, prior to 1849 AD. Ain-i-Akbari described the
town as headquarter of the Paragans. A theory suggests that the town was a settlement of Pathans in the medieval times and
hence the name, Pathankot. Today, it is used as a gateway to the hill stations of Dalhousie, Dharamshala, Mcleodganj, Kangra
Valley, Jwalaji and Chintpurni.

ABOUT
The charming city of Pathankot is popularly known as a gateway to the neighboring states of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and
Kashmir. However, the city itself has much to explore. Located in northern Punjab, its unique location at the border of three states
makes it quite interesting. Being close to Pakistan, it is a strategic location for the military. The city has a prominent presence of
the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. This quaint little city is situated at the foothills of the Himalayas, surrounded by
picturesque hill stations of Kangra and Dalhousie.

MAIN INDUSTRY
➢ Pathankot is an economically prosperous city, with stone crushing as its main industry. You can also find beautifully wrought
iron handicrafts and furniture in the markets
➢ the famous center of Loi and Shawl weaving industry.
