Introduction

Vaping has now become a trend, especially among teens aged from 15 to 20 years old. Vape is also
called e-cigarettes or vape pens is an electronic device that has become a substitution for the cigarettes our
parents were using. It is refillable device, that heats a liquid to create smoke that is inhaled by the users. The
liquid refills the vape is called e-liquid or vape juice, it has different flavors and each flavor can taste differently.
It can contain nicotine or marijuana distillate or oil. You inhale an aerosol produced by heating nicotine
(extracted from tobacco), flavorings, and other compounds in e-cigarettes. There are 7,000 compounds in
regular tobacco cigarettes, many of which are harmful. There's practically no doubt that vaping exposes you to
less hazardous chemicals than smoking conventional cigarettes, according to Blaha, even if we don't know
exactly what chemicals are in e-cigarettes. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/5-
truths-you-need-to-know-about-vaping E-cigarettes can be refillable or pre-refilled with cartridges containing
the e-liquid. The pre-refilled e-cigarettes called “Puff Bars” are designed for one time use. After taking a certain
number of “puffs,” the users throw the device away which is called disposable vapes.

The researchers observed that there is trend in using vape wherein teenagers are the majority
participators of it. The researchers would want to have to have an in-depth knowledge on why vaping is
addictive. Lastly, the researchers also want to know the prevention methods of vaping to avoid further negative
effects that could harm the user or his/her education. The researchers find this questionable to investigate
further, if simply having effects in vaping makes students grade lower and how other student reacts to this.
Prevention came from Medieval Latin “preventionem” (nominative preventio) "action of anticipating a
going before," noun of action from past-participle stem of Latin praevenire "come or go before, anticipate",
meaning action of stopping an event or practice
Remember the old saying that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”? This particularly rings
true when it comes to preventive health care. Maintaining or improving your health is important – and a focus
on regular preventive care, along with following the advice of your doctor, can help you stay healthy.

Statement of the Problem

This study generally aims to determine the perception of Grade 11- HUMSS students in the usage of
electric cigarette or vape and its effect on the different aspect of the user’s life.

Specifically, the study seeks answers to the following research questions:

1. What is the reason of engaging to vaping?

2. What are the Negative effects of vaping to;
a. Health
b. Education
c. Social aspect of life
3. What are the possibilities or chance of stopping the vaping activity due to the following reason;
a. Own health
b. Family
c. Peers/Social groups
Conceptual Framework / Theoretical Framework

This paper will show the imitation of vaping perception patterns of teens with the help of the guided
theory “Understanding Young Adults’ E-cigarette Use through the Theory of Planned Behavior”
https://bmcpublichealth.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12889-022-12674-3. The proponents of this
research are the Student of Muñoz National Senior High-School (Main) who are currently a Grade 11-HUMSS
students.

The research will be used as a partial fulfillment of the requirements in the subject Practical Research I
(Qualitative Research) submitted to the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), Munoz National
Senior High School – Main. And can also be used as a basis of students, teachers, and for future researchers.
None other than this research will no longer be used in any activity not connected to its topic.

Significance of the Study

This section will provide brief description on the various significances of the student about the
vape usage effects on Grade 11- HUMSS in Muñoz Senior High School-Main

Students. The study may serve as guideline information if they want to conduct similar or related
studies.

Teachers. The study might help the teachers to increase knowledge and promote health
education about vaping. By this study they may come up with different extra-curricular activities at
school that could raise awareness to the students.

Future Researchers. The study might help future researchers as their guide. The study also
opens in development of this study
Scope and Delimitations of the Study

The study is conducted in the Munoz National Senior High School-Main. The Respondents are only the
Grade-11 HUMSS. The study focused on the vape usage effects on Grade-11 HUMSS students in Munoz
Senior High School-Main. This study aimed to know the effects of vaping in health on users for long-term and
short-term years, the effects on the users’ academic performances, and effects on the social aspect and
environment of the user.

CHAPTER II: METHODS AND PROCEDURES

Research Design

The data that will be used to complete this study will be collected through a survey with the
chosen scope of the researchers. The researchers need to create a survey sample consisting the
questions (open ended questions) that will be answered by the participants. After the creation of
survey sample form, the researchers must present it to their respective thesis advisers. If there are
changes needed the researchers must do so. The survey will continue whenever the thesis adviser has
approved the contents or questions in the survey sample form.

Before the doing the survey, the researchers must create an excuse letter or a letter of request
signed by the thesis adviser to be presented to the respective teachers inside the classroom where the
researchers would want their survey to take place.

The data or the answers in the survey form will be collected in Munoz National Senior High
School-Main. The participants are the Grade 11 HUMSS students. The survey answers will be tallied
by the researchers and analyzed in their papers.
Locale of the Study

The study is conducted at Munoz National Senior High School-Main; this place is selected for
knowing the efficiency of the study. The respondents will be answering in their classrooms or any
comfortable place that the respondents will choose to. The researchers also gathered respondents
under Grade 11 HUMSS. The researchers choose the place of implementation because it will give
the researchers the needed information and data’s for their paper. The classrooms must be clean,
well-ventilated, and has enough chairs for every student who will participate with the survey,

Population and Sampling

The researchers considered 11 sections of Grade 11 HUMSS who are enrolled in Muñoz
National Senior High School-Main. The respondents of the study composed of 616 students that
randomly selected by 5 respondents from 11 sections (11 HUMSS-A, 11 HUMSS-B, 11 HUMSS-C,
11 HUMSS-D, 11 HUMSS-E, 11 HUMSS-F, 11 HUMSS-G, 11 HUMSS-H, 11 HUMSS-I, 11
HUMSS-J, 11 HUMSS-K)

Research Instrument

The research instrument that was used in this paper is a survey questionnaire consisting of 7 open
ended questions. Survey research is defined as "the collection of information from a sample of
individuals through their responses to questions" (Check & Schutt, 2012, p. 160). This type of
research allows for a variety of methods to recruit participants, collect data, and utilize various
methods of instrumentation.

Data Gathering Procedures

The researcher must present a letter of request to the respective teachers inside the classroom.
The researchers constructed a questionnaire with 7 open ended questions, validated by the thesis
adviser of the subject. The researcher conducts the research in Muñoz National Senior high School-
Main through survey, because of the advantage of the survey method in gathering the important
data’s needed in the paper.
The researchers explains to the respondents the importance of their response to the study. The
researcher clarifies some terms to the respondents so that the respondents can answer the
questionnaire with full knowledge of their responsibility as the subject of the study. The researcher
requested the respondent to answers with all honesty.
The researchers use an open-ended question since they are constructing a Qualitative Research.
Open ended questions will give the researchers an in-depth knowledge about the perception of the
subject about the research’s objective.

Data Analysis Technique

After the respondents answered the survey forms, the researcher collected and tallied the date for
interpretation. The researchers studied the respondents’ answers to create an interpretation of the
data. The researchers examined the relationship between two variables. The independent variable is
the usage of vape by the Grade 11 HUMSS students, while the independent variable is the effects of
vape usage students.
