THE BUBONIC PLAGUE AND THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
Bubonic Plague COVID-19 Pandemic
12 ships have arrived to the Sicilian port of
Messina and sailors aboard were dead covered
with black boils, 5 years after, the plague has
killed more than 25 million people during the
late middle ages in Europe.
Cause
Yerina Pestis was the name of the
bacteria that infected the
lymphatic system. It can be
passed through air and through
bite of infected fleas and rats
traveled on ships. Specifically, it
can be passed by touching living
or dead infected animals, regular
exposure to animals, and outdoor
activities. However, there was no
evidence that the bacteria was
transmitted from person to
person.
Symptoms
A person infected by the bacteria
experiences the following:
Fever
Chills
Headache
Diarrhea
Swollen and painful lymph
nodes under arms, in the
neck, and in the groin
Parts of the body are turning
black
The spread of the virus started in Wuhan, China
on December 2019. It is still unclear as to
where the virus originated, if it was from the
bats or from the seafood in the Wuhan Market.
As of now, there were 219 million cases and
4.55 million deaths recorded all over the world.
Cause
The virus severely infects the
respiratory system. Build-up of
fluid and mucus in the lung is
evident making it harder for an
infected to breathe. It spreads
through cough or droplets of the
virus from the infected person. It
can enter the mouth, nose and
eyes and it can be transmitted
from person to person and even
from animal to person.
Symptoms
A person infected by the virus
experiences the following:
Fever
Breathlessness
cough
Sore throat
Headache
Muscle pain
Chills
Loss of taste and/or smell

Treatment
There was no vaccine invented
as treatment, so people resorted
to the following:
Bloodletting
Boil-Lancing
Burning of aromatic herbs Medical
Bathing in rosewater or Treatment
vinegar
Antibiotics such as
Ciprofloxacin (Cipro),
Doxycycline (Vibramycin), Strengthening the immune
Gentamicin (Garamycin), and system
Levofloxacin (Levaquin) Vaccines (Pfizer, Sinovac,
Aztrazeneca,
Johnson&Johnson,
Moderna, Sputnik, etc.)

The bubonic plague has not

ended but years later, the
transmission was somehow End
controlled. As of today, there are
still recorded bubonic cases of
about 1000 to 3000 a year.

Still ongoing but the vaccines

invented alleviates the impact of
the COVID-19 pandemic. It gives
immunity to people reducing the
inflation of cases and the risk of
death.
