EED 1012 INTRODUCTION TO SIGNALS FINAL ASSIGNMENT

Question 1: [a) 6 pts,   b) 6 pts,   c) 6pts,   d) 7 pts]

Determine whether or not each of the following signals is periodic. For periodic signals, determine
their periods.

a) 𝑥 𝑛 ∑ 𝛿𝑛 3𝑘 2𝛿 𝑛 1 3𝑘 . First plot the signal x1[n].
b) 𝑥 𝑛 𝑥 𝑛 1 . First plot the signal x2[n].
c) 𝑥 𝑡 𝑒 sin 2𝜋𝑡
d) 𝑥 𝑡 𝐸𝑣𝑒𝑛 𝑠𝑖𝑛 4𝜋𝑡 𝑢 𝑡 . First plot the signal x2(t)

Question 2:    [a) 8 pts,   b) 8 pts,   c) 9 pts]

The signal x(t) is given as:

2𝑡 2 𝑓𝑜𝑟 1 𝑡 0,
𝑥 𝑡 2 𝑓𝑜𝑟 0 𝑡 1,
0 𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑤𝑖𝑠𝑒.

a) Plot x(t) and label the axis. Is x(t) an even or an odd signal?
b) Find and plot xe(t) and xo(t), i.e. even and odd parts of signal x(t).
c) Calculate total energy E∞ and average power P∞ for x(t). Determine whether x(t) is an energy
signal, power signal or neither energy nor power signal.

Question 3:  [a) 4 pts,   b) 4 pts,   c) 4pts,   d) 13 pts]

Consider the analog signal ,

a) Determine the minimum sampling rate to avoid aliasing.
b) If sampling frequency is 600Hz, what is the discrete‐time signal obtained after sampling?
c) If sampling frequency is 200 Hz, what is the discrete‐time signal obtained after sampling?
d) What is the frequency  of a sinusoid that yields samples, identical to those obtained in part (c)?

Question 4:  [a) 5 pts,   b) 20pts]
For the continuous-time periodic signal

2𝜋 2𝜋 5𝜋
𝑥 𝑡 4 cos 𝑡 3 cos 𝑡 4 sin 𝑡
6 3 3

a) Determine the fundamental frequency 𝑓.

b) Determine the Fourier series coefficients ck

Note: u(t) is continuous‐time unit step function, 𝛿 𝑛  is discrete‐time unit impulse function
