5. Angular measurement
Angular measurement
• The angle is define as the opening between two lines which meet at a point.
• If the circle is divided into 360 parts each part is called an degree. Each degree is divided into
sixty parts then each part is called as minutes and when minutes is further divided into sixty
parts then each part is called second in sexagesimal system.
Thus; 1 circle= 360 degree
1 degree= 60 minutes
1 minutes= 60 second
• Another alternative method of defining angle is based on the relationship between the radius and
arc of a circle and is called as radian.
• Radian is defined as the angle subtended by an arc of a circle of length equal to its radius and
used in mathematical investigations.
Thus; 2 pi= 360 degree
1 radian= 57.2958 degree
Moreover, linear units like 1 in 30 millimetres are often used for specifying the tapers and angular
measurement.
