(1st Semester AY 2022– 2023)

DESCRIPTIVE NUMBER: NCM 100


DESCRIPTIVE TITLE: Theoretical Foundation of Nursing
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course deals with the meta-concepts of a person, health and environment and
nursing as viewed by the different theorists. Likewise, it includes non-nursing theories such as systems,
development and change theories. It presents how these concepts and theories serves as a guide to nursing
practice. It further deals with health as a multi-factorial phenomenon and the necessary core competencies that
the nurse need to develop.
CREDIT UNITS: 3 units lecture
PRE- REQUISITE: Psychology
PLACEMENT: 1st year, 1st Semester

Teaching Tools: Powerpoint Presentions, Zoope Cards, Videos, Handouts

Course Requirements:
 Green folders for the handouts
 Journal (a notebook)
 Zoppe cards
 Sponsorship Seminar

Grading System:
 Prelim Exam 15%
 Midterm Exam ( written exam -85% Journal -15%) 15%
 Prefinal Exam 20%
 Final Exam ( written exam- 80%, Seminar -20%) 25%
 Quizzes 15%
 AARP (attendance, attitude, recitation, project) 10%
Total 100%

Control:
1. Attendance in all class activities is expected. Absence of more than 20% of the total class meetings/ hours
means DROPPED.
a. two absences- counselling with instructor and adviser
b. three absences- counselling with adviser and parent/guardian
c. four or more absences- recommended for dropping
- excuse slip is required prior to re- entry to next meeting
- counting of absences to both excused and unexcused absences
d. letter of recommendation for dropping shall be made by the Instructor to the Dean
2. Advance reading is required. Each student is expected to contribute to the discussion and eventually master
the concepts.
3. CLASSROOM RULES OF CONDUCT
1. No using of cellphones or ipod during lecture periods.
2. Food and beverages are not permitted in the classroom. This includes plate lunches, drinks,
candy, etc. whether opened or not except for bottled water.
3. Library time is expected to be spent in the library . Library time is not free time. Attendance and
concerted work on assignments are required. Work at home will be required in addition to work
during library times (work at home should not substitute for work during library periods).
4. Always wear your ID
5. Host team- will be in charge of the room preparations and cleanliness.
- Property Custodian- will be in charge of the fans and overhead projector
- Class Monitor- will be in charge of the attendance. The class must sit in Alphabetical order

7. Late during examination= student will only be allowed to take the exam depending on the validity
of his/her reason.
 Special exam will be given to those who were absent. SPECIAL PERMITS, EXCUSE SLIPS, must be
secured first
