Biography

Alfred simanjuntak was born on the 20th of September 1920 in the north Tapanuli and passed
away on June 25, 2014 in Tangerang after a long illness of pneumonia.
He was an Indonesian songwriter, founder of the Church Music Foundation, and is known
through his song titled Bangun Pemudi Pemuda. Since 1934, he has written dozens of different
types of songs, he is also fluent in 6 languages.
Alfred is the eldest of eight children; growing up, his family lived a simple life.

In 1928, Alfred attended Holland Indische school. After he graduated, he migrated to Solo and
learned how to play the organ, piano, violin, and guitar.
He worked as a teacher at 3 different schools and became a journalist for the newspaper
Soember, Jakarta. In 1950, Alfred entered the Gunung Mulia Christian Publishing Agency until
1985. Then, he studied Dutch at three campuses simultaneously. Lastly, he became the initiator
and jury Pesparani until 2001.
