High street retailer in pirated goods rows

Game over report

Executive summary

Titan Stores is a major retailer with stores in most European cities. The
company started by selling stationery, books and greeting cards, later
branching out into magazines and music products. Because of fierce
competition it has repositioned itself, concentrating on computer products,
especially computer games.

Recently they have been accused in a TV documentary of selling illegal

software products. The documentary claimed that pirated copies of the best
selling computer game Race against Time were flooding the market in
Europe.

Considering this, the members of Titan Stores buying department team have
been asked to have a meeting to discuss the options proposed by the chiefs
executive.

Introduction

This report will look at:

● A quick look to the background of the crisis

● A analysis of the actions the company took to deal with it

● Recommendations about what action SPSF should take

Findings

A quick selection of the most reasonable solution.

Solution 1: To eliminate software piracy. Its members include over 1,000 UK

companies, some of them leading software publishers. It is highly respected
and has the power to impose large fines in cases of extreme malpractice. Any
warnings or sanctions it issues in such cases can damage a company’s
reputation.

Solution 2: Explain to people why they were selling illegal software and
demonstrate how this affects product sales to show how mistreatment can
affect any company no matter how big it is.

Solution 3: Pay all those people to whom the illegal software was sold and
donate the money raised to support or a cause that shows that the company is
still on the right track and accepts the aforementioned error.

Solution 4: Continuing to sell illegal software to raise money so that they can
have more revenue from those sales including the sales of Titan-friendly
associations and thus be able to form a new large product (software) company
that is more attractive to people.

Solution 5: Selling the Titán company for the fraud committed but with the
funds raised to support SPSF to eliminate software piracy, also what is
collected from this new company will be divided into various funds to support
software companies to support "no to piracy ".

Analysis of the 2 remaining solutions

The two remaining solutions have something in common: being honest

and thinking about the future of the company and taking help from an
outside source. That is something we really need.

Option 1: We have already contacted the company to help us with the

piracy issue, they were also extremely interested in supporting us
because eliminating this problem would not only benefit us but also them
and the companies. 100 companies that are associated with them. It is a
very good opportunity to clear our name and show that we support the
elimination of piracy.

Option 3: We have already returned the money to all those people to

whom the pirated software was sold, there were no complaints from
them, they also supported us to be able to donate money to any
company that is fighting for this cause. We think that giving the money
earned for a good reason is a very good idea to prosper with the good
reputation that the company has.

Conclusion

Take option 1 or 3 because the two of them are good and help you a lot.

Recommendations

I think that option 1 is way to go. The simple reason to receive support
from 1000 UK companies is simply gratifying and will benefit, since after
the downturn caused by the sale of pirated software, this opportunity is
great and something that can support us not only now but also in the
future. . The fact that this prevents having a similar problem in the future
due to piracy would go down a lot, it would also show more confidence in
the people who assist the Titan company.
