Work Sheet-1 Metric Conversions
Work Sheet-1 Metric Conversions
When working in the metric system it is helpful to use a “metric map.” This metric map will enable
you to successfully convert your units.
EXAMPLES
G M k m μ n
When converting from one metric prefix to another, you move the decimal place the same
direction as the conversion moves along the above decimal line. You move the decimal
place the same number of places as the difference between the two indices.
Example 1
Convert 1200000 mg into kg.
This conversion is to the left of the decimal line, from 10-3 to 103, representing a change of
106 or 6 decimal place moves to the left.
∴ 1200000 mg = 1.2 kg
