Final Essay Draft Checklist

Before you submit the final essay, please review your work make sure the following needs are
met:

1. Your student number and full name is present on either a title page (your choice) or in the
top left corner before the beginning of your essay
2. Your essay has a title which is centered at the start of your work
3. Your work is double-spaced
4. Your work is in either Times New Roman or Arial font (size 12)
5. Each paragraph starts with an indented first line
6. Your essay is written in paragraphs (introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion)
7. Your work has in-text citations written in APA format (quotes or paraphrased sentence
8. Your APA reference list is formatted properly (punctuation and syntax)
9. Your work is free of spelling and grammatical errors

Mark breakdown:

40 marks - Content and Information

Your work is clear, well-written and the supporting points help prove what your thesis statement
sets out.

20 marks - Spelling, Grammar, and Syntax

Your work is free of spelling mistakes and grammatical issues. The verbs tenses and parallel
structure line up. Correct use of commas and other punctuation. Capital letters are used where
necessary along with abbreviations and short forms of words or ideas.

15 marks - APA Formatting

Your work contains in-text citations and references. In-text citations are formatted using the
appropriate information (ex: Smith, 2022, pg.14). Your essay has a reference list that
corresponds to the information included in your paragraphs.

15 marks – General Structure and Formatting

Essay is formatted into paragraphs that are double-spaced in the appropriate font. There is a
reference list and essay title. Student name and student number are present. Transition words are
used to link ideas.
