THE SECOND CHANCE

Ajamila was a brahmana who lived in the city of Kanyakubja, in ancient India. He
was born into a pious family and was trained in all the Vedic scriptures and rituals
from a young age. However, as he grew up, he became enamored with material
pleasures and started to lead a sinful life.
Ajamila's downfall started when he fell in love with a prostitute named Bhagavati
and abandoned his duties as a husband and father. He spent all his wealth on her
and had several children with her. He even named his youngest son Narayana,
after the name of Krishna, but his heart was filled with lust and attachment to
material pleasures.
One day, as Ajamila was on his deathbed, he saw the Yamadutas, the messengers
of Yamaraja, the lord of death, who had come to take him to hell for his sinful
actions. In a state of fear, Ajamila called out to his youngest son Narayana for
help.
As fate would have it, by calling out to his son, Ajamila inadvertently chanted the
holy name of Krishna, Narayana. This act of chanting the holy name saved him
from the clutches of death and confused the Yamadutas, who left without taking
him. Ajamila became introspective and realized the gravity of his past sinful
actions. He renounced his old ways of life and spent the rest of his days chanting
the holy name of Krishna and doing acts of charity and penance. At the time of his
death, he was visited by the Vishnudutas, the messengers of Lord Vishnu, who
took him to the spiritual realm, where he was reunited with his Lord.
The story of Ajamila highlights the power of the holy name of Krishna and the
importance of leading a righteous life. It also showcases the mercy of Krishna and
his willingness to forgive even the most sinful of persons.

Lesson from life of Ajamila-

1. The power of the holy name: Ajamila was a sinful person who had led a life
of debauchery and had even named his son after the name of Krishna,
Narayana. But when he called out to his son on his deathbed, he
inadvertently chanted the holy name of Narayana. This simple act of
chanting the holy name of Krishna saved him from the clutches of death
and ultimately led to his liberation. This demonstrates the immense power
of the holy name and the importance of regularly chanting it. Example of
Muslim chanted ‘Harama Harama’.
2. The consequences of sinful actions and Bad association: Ajamila's moment
or glimpse of vision of bad association cause him to fall from spiritual path
(Dhyato Visaya pumsa). His past sinful actions led him to suffer in hellish
conditions after death. This serves as a reminder of the consequences of
our actions and the importance of leading a righteous life. Example –
Ajamila , Vipranayan If you see crack call out for help don’t become casual
as causal lead to causality. . “CUPID CAN MAKE ANYONE STUPID”

3. The mercy of Krishna: Despite Ajamila's sinful life, he was shown mercy by
Krishna when he chanted the holy name. This demonstrates the all-
encompassing love and mercy of Krishna and his willingness to forgive even
the most sinful of persons. Example of Vipranarayan Alwar.

4. The importance good association (Devotees): Ajamila's association with the

pure devotees of Narayana ultimately led to his redemption. Blessing, he got
by allowing to serve sadhu even for a moment saved him from greatest
danger because of them he gave his son’s name Narayana. When Ajamila
saw the Yamadutas, the messengers of Yamaraja who had come to take him
to hell, he became fearful and called out to his son for help. Saved his life and
going to hell. This underscores the importance of associating with spiritually
minded people in order to progress on the path of spiritual life. Example :
Story of Tirumanga alwar – Bow of Vishnu – married to Kumadri marriage
condition need to be fulfilled .

5. The power of repentance: Ajamila became introspective and realized the

gravity of his past sinful actions. He renounced his old ways of life and spent
the rest of his days chanting the holy name of God and doing acts of charity
and penance. At the time of his death, he was visited by the Vishnudutas, the
messengers of Lord Vishnu, who took him to the spiritual realm, where he
was reunited with his Lord. Its never too late to start , take responsibility of
our mistake .
