The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama

(Central) Accommodation Allocation Guide

2022/23

Outlined below is the way in which Central allocate the number of rooms that we
receive from the University of London’s Intercollegiate Halls.

Rooms within Intercollegiate Halls are allocated according to Central’s priority

categories (given below) making use of a transparent controlled ‘lottery’ style
allocation system (excluding Group 1).

Any Applicant/Student either enrolled, or due to enrol, must be on a full-time course

lasting for the duration of the forthcoming full academic year to be eligible to apply for
accommodation.

Please Note: students who have lived in Intercollegiate Halls and are returning to
study after completing their first year or returning from a suspension of studies are not
eligible to apply for Intercollegiate Halls, unless they fall into priority Group 1 (see
below).

In this document, the following meaning is attributed to the terms applicant and
student.

Applicant: an individual who holds a full-time course offer for entry to Central
in 2022/23

Student: a registered student of Central following a full-time course of study.

Random ‘lottery’ allocation: the allocation of rooms using a randomised system

which ensures fairness and transparency.

It’s worth flagging now that priority will be given to applicants/students with
disabilities or a medical condition in line with Disability Services
recommendations.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for a room within Intercollegiate Halls, Applicants/Students must
meet the following criteria:

• First Year International Applicants (Non UK) including Full-time

Undergraduate and Postgraduate study.

• First Year Undergraduate (Home) Applicants Full-Time study.

• Postgraduate Applicants (Home) with disabilities or medical condition

Full-Time study.

Allocations
We allocate rooms using the two following priority groups:

Group 1 - Applicants and Students with registered disability or a medical

condition. Please note you will be asked to provide robust medical evidence from a
qualified medical practitioner.

Group 1 priority Applicants/Students will be allocated accommodation using medical

evidence provided, not on a lottery style allocation. The Accommodation Allocation
Panel (Chaired by the Student Advice Service Manager with expert input from
Central’s Disability Service) will review all Group 1 applications and medical evidence
as part of its decision making process.

Please note; in the event all rooms are allocated to Group 1 applicants/students, the
allocation will then be complete and no further rooms will be allocated to groups 2a
and 2b below.

Group 2a – International Applicants Group 2b - First Year Undergraduate

(non UK) inclusive of undergraduate Applicants studying full-time.
and postgraduate in their first year
studying full-time.

If any rooms are remaining after the allocation of Group 1, the rooms will be equally
split between Groups 2a and 2b ‘lottery’ allocation based on a fair system.

Each Applicant/Student will be asked to rank their first, second, third and fourth
choice of room preference. The Applicant/Student will also be asked to confirm that all
room choices are within their budget. Please be aware that if you are allocated a room
we cannot guarantee your first choice.
It’s important to note that we have a limited number of rooms and as we use a fair
and transparent lottery allocation, we cannot guarantee that Applicants/Students will
receive a room. If Applicants/Students do receive an offer of a room, we cannot
guarantee that this will be their first choice.

The Application Process

The Applications for 2022/23 rooms will open on Friday 20th May 2022 at 12:00 (UK
Time) and will close on Monday 6th June 2022 at 10:00 (UK Time). Applications
received after the deadline will be added to a waiting list.

An application must be submitted with medical evidence (Group 1 Priority) to the

Student Advice Service (SAS) via email to sas@cssd.ac.uk.

If the application is incomplete or additional information is needed Applicants will be

contacted right away. We recommend giving yourself enough time to complete the
application in advance of the deadline and check your application carefully before
submission.

Applicants/Students are asked to confirm the offer of a room by the specified deadline
given by the SAS team. If any Applicant/Student who fails to accept their allocated
room, this will forfeit their right to the allocation.
Successful Applicants/Students will be referred to the University of London, who will
then contact the Applicants/Students to complete the process.
Once an offer has been made, it is not possible to transfer to a different room or Halls
of Residence due to the limited spaces.
Places are allocated for one year only, for the standard academic year. University of
London will provide contract details once rooms have been finalised.
