OpenDNS is a free-to-use suite of consumer products aimed at making your internet

faster, safer, and more reliable. The idea is to replace your broadband DNS servers
with OpenDNS server which automatically filter out the less family-friendly sites
automatically. DNS (The Domain Name System) is the phonebook of the Internet.
Humans access information online through domain names, like bbc.co.uk or
edendorkps.com. Web browsers interact through Internet Protocol (IP) addresses.
DNS translates domain names to IP addresses so browsers can load Internet
resources. Each device connected to the Internet has a unique IP address which other
machines use to find the device. DNS is used to find devices on the internet.

With OpenDNS filtering or pre-configured protection, you can safeguard your family
against adult content and more. It is an easy way to add parental and content
filtering controls to every device in your home.

There are 2 free options – OpenDNS Family Shield which is preconfigured to block
adult content or OpenDNS Home which allows some customisation based on 50
categories of web content and provides basic protection. The second option requires
registration and some setup. The first option does not require any registration.
Instructions for the OpenDNS Family Shield are below.

Configuration)

1. Open the preferences for your router.

Often, the preferences are set in your web browser, via a URL with numbers (example:
http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1). You may need a password which should be
printed on the router.

2. Find the DNS server settings.

Scan for the letters DNS next to a field which allows two or three sets of numbers, each
broken into four groups of one to three numbers. It might look like this:

3. Put in the OpenDNS server addresses as your DNS server settings and
save/apply.

Please write down your current settings before entering the OpenDNS addresses, just in
case.

 208.67.222.222
 208.67.220.220

There may be a check box which says something like – Use automatic DNS settings.
You may need to uncheck this box to gain access to change the DNS settings.

4. Cache Flushing.

Once you have configured your DNS settings and saved them, we highly suggest that
you flush your DNS resolver cache to ensure that your new DNS configuration settings
take immediate effect.

5. Check your Settings.

Once you have configured your DNS, check the router has retained the settings by going
