WEIGHING AND BALANCING – MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
1. Leveling Aircraft – Weighing and Balancing
A. Leveling – Laterally
(1) Jack aircraft.
(2) Locate leveling holes in nose baggage compartment. Holes are drilled in door frame (see
Figure 201, item A).
(3) Insert cleco or #40 drill bit into hole, one each door frame.
(4) Place straight edge onto clecos, joining leveling points.
(5) Place level onto straight edge.
(6) Level aircraft by adjusting height of wing jacks.
B. Leveling – Longitudinally
(1) Method 1
(a) Jack the aircraft.
(b) Standing on left wing facing fuselage, place level on centerline, top of fuselage.
Level should be at least twenty four (24) inches long.
(c) Level aircraft by adjusting height of nose jack.
(2) Method 2 (Figure 201, item B)
(a) Jack aircraft.
(b) Inside nose baggage compartment, gain access to top right side of keelson by
removing equipment and carpeting as necessary.
(c) Make a platform to accommodate a level by stacking two 0.25 inch washers over
rivets at each end of level. Level should be at least eighteen (18) inches long.
(d) Level aircraft by adjusting height of nose jack.

2. Weighing Aircraft – Weighing and Balancing
A. Weighing Methods
(1) Two methods of weighing aircraft are recommended; the platform method and jackstand
method. After weighing is completed, enter corrected weight, arm, and moment data on
Weighing Forms provided in the AFM.
B. Platform Method
(1) Place aircraft wheels onto three (3) platform scales.
(2) Align nose gear in normal, forward rolling, centered position.
(3) Release parking brake to prevent binding of scales.
NOTE: Aircraft must be longitudinally level.
(4) Combine scale readings for nose, left, and right gear to determine total aircraft weight.
(5) Complete form provided in Table 201 to compute weight, moment, and center of gravity.

Weighing – Platform Method

Table 201
C. Jackstand Method
NOTE: This method requires use of electronic load cells and support jacks.
(1) With load cells in place on jacks and zeroed, raise aircraft until gear is clear of the floor.
(2) Verify gear is down and locked during weighing.
(3) Level aircraft laterally and longitudinally.
(4) Complete form provided in Table 202 to compute weight, moment, and center of gravity.
NOTE: Off-center location of nose jack pad and location of wing jack pads, will result in
considerable differences in individual scale readings when comparing weights
obtained using jackstand method with weights obtained using platform method.

D. Weight and Balance Calculation
(1) Table 203 is a formula for calculating weight and balance to determine aircraft center of
gravity location.
