ENGLISH 1 -20% WRITING TASK

1. TYPE OF TASK: Writing a postcard.


2. AUDIENCE: Foreign friend in an anglophone country.
3. PURPOSE: Describing your family.
4. PROMPT: You are friends with a person in an anglophone country. You’re interchanging
information about your families. Your friend wrote you a postcard telling you about his/her family.
Reply to the postcard by describing your own family. Be sure to include:
a. A proper greeting for your friend.
b. The type of family you have (extended, blended, traditional, etc.).
c. The members of your family.
d. Personal information about your family members.
e. A physical and character description of at least ONE of the members of your family.
f. Write 70 to 80 words.
g. Follow the format below.

I'm from Colombia just like my family. We
are a traditional family made up of my father,
mother and I (yes, I am an only
child).________________________________
My father's name is Fredy Londoño, he is 51
years old and works as a butcher. On the other
hand there is my mother, Claudia Giraldo, she
is 46 years old and currently does not work. As
you know, my name is Daniel, I am 23 years
old, I am a student and I really like video
games.________________________________

very serious and polite. My mom is small, slim
and she has blonde hair. She is positive, loving
and cheerful.

the USA. I’m glad to introduce you to my family.
These are Cameron and Lily, my husband and
daughter. That’s right! I’m gay, so my family is a
same-sex family type.
Cameron is tall, a little heavy but very handsome!
He’s very romantic and optimistic, different from
me but I love him.
Our daughter, Lily, is adopted but she’s
adorable. She’s only 3 years old and is very
smart.

I’m looking forward to meeting your family.

Content: complete the task assigned by describing the type of family,
physical description, and personality traits of your family members.

Composing (organization): produce a cohesive text (relationship among


the parts of the text) and shows evidence of a coherent text (an appropriate
organization within the sentences that are according to the level).
Vocabulary: use vocabulary about a family members, family types,
physical description and personality description. Also, include personal
information about them and their family members.
Structure: produce the simple present structure when talking about
descriptions. Connects sentences with the use of basic linking words
such as BUT or AND.
Mechanics: make proper use of capitalization, punctuation, and spelling so
it doesn´t interfere with the meaning or communication purpose of the task.
