Cast List Speaking parts: Narrator Suitable for an adult/older child, or easily divided into shorter sections for a number of different children. Mother A caring and practical child would suit this role perfectly. Little RRH Wearing a red top with red headscarf, or red hooded coat, Little Red Riding Hood is an inquisitive type. Would suit a child with the confidence to act and deliver a few simple lines. Mr Woit Asneaky, crafty character! Ideal for anyone particularly good at hiding in the woods. Granny Ameek, but kind old lady. Ideal for anyone that looks good in a sleeping cap! She'll also need a nightgown and glasses. Woodcutter Someone keen to save the day. A non-speaking role. Ideas for non-speaking parts: There are relatively few speaking parts in this musical, however there are lots of opportunities to involve more children throughout the play. The main body of your performers can stand in the ‘choir, with some playing percussion (see Percussion Notes). They should also join in the unison lines of script. You could allocate others to set the scene: The woods Use the children, dressed in appropriate colours or outfits, ‘to form the woods. Little RRH will wander through them on her way to Granny's house and the wolf will need to lurk in amongst them during song two. Props team It would be useful to have a team of children ready to bring on props at the relevant moments (see Props). L Percussion Notes Percussion parts are included for all the songs (see music score) and we have also suggested areas in the script where percussion can be used for sound effects. Encouraging the children to play along with the songs will enrich their musical experience, helping with co-ordination and teamwork. Have fun including as much as you like and experiment with making other ‘instruments’ from everyday objects you might find at home or in the classroom. Props There is scope for various props to help with the telling of this story, such as: + Abasket full of currant buns/cakes Flowers for Little Red Riding Hood to pick in the woods Masks for Mr Wolf— one as a plain wolf; one with Granny's cap/glasses A bag, or old pair of tights, stuffed to look as if it is full of stones to use as Mr Wolf's tummy, and another to look as if he has eaten Granny An axe - preferably cardboard — for the woodcutter A second (front-opening) nightgown, for the wolf Script and Song Lyrics NARRATOR MOTHER NARRATOR N w s Once upon a time there was a little girl who lived in a village near a wood.
