In March, I shared with you that I am writing a book about

Design Thinking for HR. I promised to provide periodic updates
on how it’s progressing.

I am super excited that over a hundred of you lovely people have

already joined the book’s Early Readers’ Community. Wow! I
am honored and floored. It is exciting to see how the potential of
design thinking for HR is becoming more recognized.

Since we launched, the Early Readers’ have had a chance to

provide feedback on the book outline and share their perspective
on what makes a great non-fiction business book. They helped me
reflect and dig deeper.

How about you? Think of your favorite non-fiction

business book - the one that you re-read and recommend
to others. What makes it a great book? Please share in
the comments.

I just started writing my first chapter – which is both exciting

and daunting. I know my stuff, but I am not a professional
writer. We talk a lot about mindsets in design thinking. I am
choosing to embrace a growth mindset and view this project as
an opportunity to not only clarify and codify my proven
approach to design thinking for HR, but also to cultivate my
writing and storytelling skills.

I just became the proud aunt of a baby boy. I am reminded of all

Home My Network Jobs
the firsts that he will experience soon. The skills he will have to
learn. The wonder he will experience.

As an adult, learning a new skill can feel scary. Reminding

ourselves of a child’s joy when they experience something new
can help us flex that muscle again with just a little more ease.

I would love to hear from you: What tactics have helped

you embrace the discomfort of learning a new skill?
Please share in the comments.

While I am progressing with the book, I am also contemplating

bigger picture questions. For example: Why would someone read
a book about Design Thinking for HR? Why not? What do HR
professionals already know about design thinking? What’s
missing? What parts of their work can benefit from a design
thinking approach?

Asking these questions helps me stay close to the needs of my

readers. After all, I am not writing this book for myself…

I am curious: Why would you read a book about Design

Thinking for HR? Please share your thoughts via this
super brief survey.
