ASSESSMENT PLAN

CMPG 171: INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTING AND PROGRAMMING

Teaching ● PowerPoint slides have been uploaded on e-fundi


● Links to online tutorials will be provided
● Notes and other supporting materials will be posted on
e-fundi

Type of assessment ● 8 Quizzes (4 per semester) = 20%


● 4-Tests ( 2 per semester) = 40%
● 2 practical test (1 per semester) = 10%
● 1 project (will be done in phases, 1 phase
completed)=30%
● 2-Exams per year

● Quiz 1 will be due on the 29th of May, 2020
Topic: Networks
● Quiz 2 will be due on the 15th of June, 2020
Topic: Databases
● Quiz 3: will be due on the 30th of June, 2020
Topic: Loops

TESTS
● Test 1 : 10 June, 2020 ( From chapter 1 till where
we ended before lockdown)
● Test 2: Date to be communicated (Networks,
Databases, Loops)

Practical work ● Students will be required to create a simple database


using either SQL/MS Access
● Students will be required to write a simple code on
Python

Calculation of module ● Requirements for successful completion of the module


mark ● Participation mark: minimum of 40% to obtain
admission to the examination.
● You must complete and submit at least 70% of practical
assignments to obtain examination
admission.
● You always get two examination opportunities to
complete your examination.
● Examination sub-minimum: 40%.
● You require a final module mark of at least 50% to pass
the module.
● 75% and higher indicates a distinction.
● Final module mark: A sub minimum of 50%..
● Formal assessments are weighed at 70%
● Practicals / mini-projects at 30%
