Part 2: Managing differences

4. Reflect in the following on your own culture

Use the following questions as additional guidance.
• What is your family and cultural background and how does that affect the person you are?
Complete the RESPECTFUL model on page 33 of the Custom Edition.
• What groups do you belong to (look at what would have been your homework for session
11)?
• How has your group membership shaped your values, way of thinking and behaving? How
has each experience of setting changed the way you think?
• Perhaps most challenging, where might you have biases of favoritism towards others or
towards your own group? Or perhaps you may discover some unconscious biases against
others.

5. Reflect on your overall growth with regard to differences and similarities between
you and the people in your surroundings.
• Throughout the first year of your psychology Bachelor you have learned about cultural and
personal differences and similarities between people, for example in Academic Skills (AS
10), Social- and Cross-cultural Psychology and Personality and Individual Differences.
• Your reflection should focus on your overall development, i.e. where did you start off,
where have you developed to where are you standing now. We recommend you focusing
on the aspects that are central and personally relevant for you.

6. Reflect on the positive psychology tools from the presentations.

• Throughout the semester, you have learned about different tools used in positive
psychology. Other than the tool you gave a presentation on, which topic did you like
most? Why?
• Which tool(s) do you find most useful in these stressful times? Explain why and how you
have used it in the past weeks. If you have not yet used any tools in your personal life, use
one and describe the effects it had on you (your mood, your perspective on the current
situation, etc.).
• What presentation tools did you learn from watching your classmates? What is one tool
you will try in a future presentation?
