Competitive Exam Industry in India

The market size of the competitive exam industry in India is estimated to be around INR 64000-
80000 crore. This includes revenues from coaching institutes, publishers of study materials,
online learning platforms, and exam conducting bodies. The coaching industry alone is
estimated to be worth around INR 40000 crore, with major players like FIITJEE, Allen Career
Institute, and Resonance Eduventures. The market size is expected to grow in the coming years
due to the increasing number of aspirants and the growing popularity of online learning
platforms.

1. UPSC Civil Services Examination: This exam is conducted by the Union Public Service
Commission and is considered one of the toughest exams in India. It is held annually and
includes three stages: Prelims, Mains, and Personality Test. Approximately 10 lakh
candidates appear for this exam every year.

2. IIT-JEE (Joint Entrance Examination): This exam is conducted for admission to the Indian
Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and other
premier engineering colleges in India. The exam is held in two stages - JEE Main and JEE
Advanced. More than 16 lakh (1.6 million) students registered for JEE Main, and around
2.5 lakh (250,000) candidates appeared for JEE Advanced.

3. NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test): This exam is conducted for admission to
undergraduate medical courses in India. It is considered one of the toughest exams in
India due to the limited number of seats and high competition. Over 16 lakh (1.6 million)
candidates registered for NEET, and around 15 lakh (1.5 million) appeared for the exam.

4. CAT (Common Admission Test): This exam is conducted for admission to MBA programs
in India's premier management institutes such as the Indian Institutes of Management
(IIMs). Around 2.27 lakh (227,000) candidates appear for CAT.

5. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering): This exam is conducted for admission to
postgraduate engineering courses in India's top institutes. Around 8.8 lakh candidates
registered for GATE.

exam is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission for recruitment to various Group B
and C posts in the government.

conducted for the recruitment of Probationary Officers in public sector banks in India.
Around 3.5 lakh candidates appeared for IBPS PO.

8. CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test): This exam is conducted by the Central Board of
Secondary Education for recruitment of teachers in central government schools. Around
12 lakhs appeared for the exam.

9. NDA (National Defense Academy) Exam: This exam is conducted for admission to the
Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Around 5 lakh (500,000) candidates registered for
NDA, and around 6,000 candidates were shortlisted for the final selection process.

10. CLAT (Common Law Admission Test): This exam is conducted for admission to
undergraduate and postgraduate law courses in India's top law colleges. over 77,000
candidates registered for CLAT, and around 62,000 candidates appeared for the exam.
