public speaking, emphasis markers in persuasive texts, different forms of modals,
reflexive and intensive pronouns.
B. Performance Standards The learner composes a short but powerful persuasive text using a variety of
persuasive techniques and devices.

SHORT STORY

A short story is a work of prose fiction that can be read in one sitting—usually
between 20 minutes to an hour. There is no maximum length, but the average
short story is 1,000 to 7,500 words, with some outliers reaching 10,000 or 15,000
words.

2. Setting - the time and place in which the story happens, also includes physical

3. Plot - the story line, consisting of events and the actions of the characters.

4. Conflict - the struggle in the story, which might be between characters, a


character and the environment or the character and himself.

5. Theme - the central idea of the story.

After the discussion, the teacher will ask the students if they understood the
lesson. Also, the teacher will ask the students what is the use of short story in
other subject areas (Math, Science, History and TLE).

c. Developing mastery
(leads to Evaluation) After the discussion, the students are going to read the short story entitled “The
Tell Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe. Moreover, they are going to identify the
elements of the short story and they are going to share their answers, thoughts
and ideas about the short story.
